In 1900, founder George Stephenson donated land for a municipal park which includes parts of today's downtown and east side neighborhoods including Georgetown (now within the city limits), Bloomfield Hills (now within Taylor Park), and Ridgeview (later annexed into neighboring Berea). This early effort to keep people close to one another helped make Lakewood one of the most established towns in northeast Ohio. The first school founded in what is now Lakewood was called Kenmore School. This school closed after only six months due to lack of enrollment so it is unknown if any students ever attended it. The first public library opened in 1903, also known as First Congregational Church Library since it served both townspeople and residents from afar who came to use its resources for their reading needs during those early years. One important moment associated withLakewood's founding comes from November 1st 1889 when Cleveland mayor James Mather dedicated a railroad bridge over Cedar Point Lockage Canal connecting Cleveland with Akron via Brush Hill Road near present day Uniontown Heights/Centerville Rd.. That event marked not only Cleveland's connection with Buffalo but also its annexation by Akron making Lakewood technically part of Greater Cleveland! It wasn't until 1912 when lake wood electric Cooperative became operational that village had Electricity! This cooperative provided power for homes, businesses and schools until 1935 when all services were turnedover to Municipal Electric Authority! local wires still remain throughout downtown today providing essential grid electricity service needed for many activities such as powering streetlights and runabouts

The city experienced significant growth during World War I (1914-18), when production soared for munitions and other war materials; however, during the Great Depression (1929-1939) Cleveland's economy crashed. During this time many people left the city for jobs in larger metropolitan areas such as Detroit or Buffalo. However, following World War II (1939-1945), Cleveland regained its former stature as an important industrial center with a large aerospace industry.
