They called this meeting the Treaty of Mount Woodstock because it took place on Mount Woodstock (now Independence National Cemetery). The treaty resulted in the purchase by Ohio of all of present-day Lakewood and most of Defiance Township east thereof for $1 million cash and 5 slaves. This event helped solidify eastern Ohio's importance as an agricultural center during the colonial period and made Lakewood one of America's earliest settlements22 years before Erie County officially formed in 180723 According to one source24, prior to 1800 only two families lived in what is now downtown Lakewood: those who farmed on parcels west of Euclid Avenue and those who built homes along Clinton Street just south of Ironton Road25 Some other early residents were James Caldwell (a Revolutionary War soldier)26 Moses Brown27 Abram Hopkins28 Solomon Silberman29 Samuel Morse30 horsecar service began between Akron and Cleveland with horse carriages operated by Elijah Morse31 On February 4th 1830 John Dunlap32 purchased 1/4 acre at what are now Woodward Avenue and Main Street corner from Enos Mills33 In 1834 he laid out a street plan for his new community which still exists today34 One early resident35 suggested that they change their name to "Lake Woods"36 but this proposal was not accepted37 After developing some ideas about how to improve their current location38 they decided on the name that would become their official moniker – Lakewood

Lakewood, Ohio is a town in the Sandusky County, Ohio, United States. The population was 2,817 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Toledo–Middletown–Beachwood Combined Statistical Area. Lakewood was founded in 1812 as a small settlement on the Scioto River near Mentor. In 1814, it became a village and in 1837 became an incorporated town. The present day Lakewood was established when parts of Mentor Township were annexed by Lakewood from Ottawa Township on July 10, 1907. The city of Toledo was formally incorporated as a municipality in 1909 and annexation followed two years later by what is now Delaware Township. On November 3, 1913, Toledo amalgamated with neighboring Middletown to form Lakewood-Delaware Township which still exists today as an unincorporated community within Lakewood proper. In 1916, during World War I, General Motors built a large factory in what is now the downtown area of Lakewood while also constructing other factories around the city periphery such as GMC’s White Deer plant across White Deer Road from downtown and Chrysler’s plants along West Side Highway adjacent to Englishtown Mall (now known as Lucas Oil Stadium). This led to over 1 million jobs being created in that region during World War I alone and helped spur economic development throughout much of central Ohio including Lakewood. Throughout its history University Park Hospital has been one of lake wood's most important employers with over 350 employees providing health care for residents in both urban areas and rural areas throughout southeastern Ohio and southwestern Michigan until their closure in 2001 due to budget cuts that affected all public hospitals statewide; however University Park Hospital remains one of only two full service hospital campuses remaining operating within 20 miles of any major metropolitan area worldwide relegated primarily to serve academic medical centers located outside those metropolitan areas despite having significant patient populations residing within short commuting distance thereof such as Cleveland Clinic Case Medical Center located less than 25 miles eastward on or adjacent toCLEVELAND – well beyond any radius served by any academic medical center operated by Univisions Healthcare System (Univisions) prior thereto; however this notwithstanding; Univisions Healthcare System operates without state government funding some 55 [!] outpatient surgical clinics licensed under private auspices located inside every single university system teaching medical students; these clinics provide quality surgery services at fractional cost compared to typical university systems where procedures are routinely billed skyrocketingly exorbitant ratespayer funded procedures typically provided free or at very low cost per procedure regardless of necessity
