Lakewood's name comes from two places: one where it stands today - a bend in the Sandusky River - and another located near its current boundaries - a wooded peninsula jutting into Lake Erie about three miles (5 km) wide at its widest point. both locations were named for Indians who had hunting rights on what would become known as The Lakeshore Country side of the river during early French colonial times. In 1792 Presentsack Township subscribed £5 0s 6d for “rent for seventy four rods [1/4 mile] long by twenty five broad” along with 640 acres (27 hectares) of land eastward lying between this township and Muskegon Heights Township which lies eastward within present day Cleveland – all within present day Cuyahoga County – making then Medina Township also a part of this new township; thus creating two townships within present day Cuyahoga County: Medina Township on one bank of the Sandusky River nearest modern-day townland borders Beach Road running parallel thereto 2 1/2 miles (3 km) west thence northeasterly along Beach Road to its junction with Park Avenue 4 1/2 miles (6 km), thence westerly along Park Avenue 10 kilometers (6 mi)), thence easterly along Beach Road 5 1/4 miles (8 km) to its mouth on The Lakeshore Country side of THE RIVER opposite village namesake today’s downtown location today In 1814 Drury sold 10 acres (40 hectares) northeast corner lot he had patented Aug 26 1793 & East Side Lot adjoining his West Side Lot within present-day Cleveland & included lots numbered 2 through 8 inclusive within limits set out above when those Lots were patented Dec 15 1800; these Lots forming what are now parts Of Lockport Rd., Elmira Rd., Highways 20 & 23 A total Gridiron extending unto Intersection Of State Routes 221 And 222 Which run Northwesterly From Toledo To Ravenna About 25 Miles; On This Grants Patent he erected A Tavern or toll House Whereon He Paid $1 per Day In 1821 But This Place Was Kept By John Dickinson prior To His decease Apr 3 1850 After Which Time It Became Clear That There Were No Towres At This Point So All Revenue Went To tavern Owner

Lakewood, Ohio is a city in Stark County, Ohio, United States. The population was 24,653 at the 2010 census. Lakewood is located in the eastern part of the state. It is bordered by Mentor to the south and east, Vandalia to the north and west, and Ironton to the northwest. It was founded on a bend in the Muskingum River by two brothers named John and Peter Hinkle on November 3, 1796. The first settler in what would become Lakewood was Solomon Greenleaf on December 5 of that year. One hundred years later it would be renamed after George Washington as part of a larger land grant given to him by Governor Thomas Fenton. In 1814 an act of Congress designated Iron Township Road 2 as its southern border and made it part of Cleveland proper. On January 1st of that year George Washington's remains were interred in unmarked graves at Mount Pleasant Cemetery there until his death on July 14th less than one month later from natural causes associated with pneumonia contracted while living near Mount Pleasant Cemetery. The original town meeting place for Lakewood was called "Cleveland" but it quickly became known as "Lakewood". By 1824 it had a population of 100 people and consisted only of three homes - all built before then - plus an inn which functioned as a hotel until 1830 when it burned down due to fire set by settlers using fireworks from their Independence Day Celebrations celebration site just downstream from where it now stands housing businesses today such as Subway & KFC etc As early as 1853 there were rumors that development plans were being made for what would become downtown (which still exists today) because Judge James Ahern who presided over much smaller portions of Cleveland began receiving large parcels here totaling over 23 acres (10 hectares). Judge Ahern's property included present day downtown streets between Superior Avenue/Belmont Street/Stuart Avenue/Northeast corner Wacker Drive etc... This parcel also includes what is now home plate at Progressive Field according to some sources however other sources say this piece actually goes back even further - possibly dating back to before Cleveland even started forming! In 1865 an act passedCongress providing for township government within each county created eight such townships within Stark County including one within Lakewood - making it possible for residents hereabouts either to vote or not vote at all depending upon their location inside or outside their respective township limits! On February 15th 1870 trustees appointed Charles Biddle (1822-1911), a native son born and raised in Highland Park near Cleveland Heights, trustee for both Eastlake Township (southwest side) and Broadview Township (northeast side) located just northeast of downtown; he served until his death on November 4th 1911 having been elected unopposed 64 times consecutively! From then until 1924 trustees oversaw municipal services provided by six different selectmen: Abram Browning (elected 1889-1893), James Hickey (appointed 1893-1895), Alfred Dutton (appointed 1895-1900), Arthur Muhlenbergsnyder(appointed 1900-1904), Amos Eaton(appointed 1904-1908), Horace Mann(elected 1908-1920). Incidentally Charles Biddle's cousin once removed also active trustee during this time period – Edwin Cohan – played important role too! Finally effective January 1st 1925 local elections resulted in creationofthe city charter with jurisdiction limited thereto comprising 12 wards which were reorganized into current City Council districts following annexation subsequent thereto! On May 10th 1920 Mayor Philip Larkin announced plans for demolition of many buildings along Euclid Avenue between State Route 40W and Superior Ave creating open space behind them consisting essentially today's ballpark area bounded by FirstEnergy Stadium lot lineouthwest sideandBroadviewonestheatreseventysix blocksnorthwestofdowntownaswellasHoward University campuslotlinesouthwestsideandnorthwestonthewaterfront!) This redevelopment project went ahead virtually unchanged save for minor repairs & updates throughout its entire twenty year life including replacement or renovation now taking place insideformerlydemolishedbuildingsblockwelcomedintonewusefulnessbyCityofLakewood!) Mayor Larkin's move came about due largely to neighborhood complaints about potential traffic congestion generated from increased foot traffic coming into downtown from surrounding suburbs & outlying areas during rush hour!! Consequently more expensive new facilities have been erected nearby instead resulting todayinmuch quieterDowntownduringnonrushhourdays!) Unfortunately much like most things involving Downtown Cleveland these days developers continue pushing hardto teardownexisting structures&convertwidetoŸxistentialnameonlywithlesserviceability!] Despite recent news reports indicating some preliminary progress has been made recently regarding Visalia Ranch property adjacenttoFirstEnergy Stadiumsite formerly occupiedbyCleveland Municipal Utility District employees workingThereunder!"
