One significant reason for this growth has been its location on the shores of Cuyahoga River which has provided ample commercial opportunities for both manufacturing and agricultural businesses alike since earliest days[2]. Manufacturing continues to be an important aspect of local economy with many companies located near downtown cores such as Lucas Oil Stadium (the home stadium for the Cleveland Browns) and Quicken Loans Arena (home to both the Cleveland Cavaliers NBA team and America's Largest Indoor Soccer Tournament). Additionally, there are numerous small businesses clustered around busy arterial highways making commuting easy or even possible without leaving downtown core[3]. As an incorporated city with jurisdiction over all but 1/4ths of Athens County,[4] Lakewood enjoys some unique advantages not typically found elsewhere within municipal boundaries: - It is home to two public universities - Case Western Reserve University and Franklin & Marshall College - two major hospital systems - Nationwide Children's Hospital and WEA Incorporated - numerous cultural institutions including The Art Institute Of Cleveland (one of several branches located inside City limits), five professional sports teams represented by their respective leagues in addition to baseball (National Football League; National Basketball Association; American Hockey League; Major League Baseball; Ultimate Fighting Championship), four major shopping malls located within walking distance (Downtown Mall; Midtown mall; Sheboygan mall; South Hills mall) plus dozens more smaller stores scattered throughout its boundaries - It also enjoyes considerable government funding support providing various services such as libraries,[5] streetlights,[6] parks[7], water fluoridation programs,[8][9] firefighting/EMS service[10][11][12][13][14][15], road maintenance assistance programs likeassistance withstreet paving or resurfacing,[16][17],[18],[19],[20],[21] zoning regulations specifically designed towards urbanophile development patterns like density limitations or ground floor retail units only[22]), although annexation requests continue to be actively considered.[23] Today, Lewisville annexed neighboring townships such as Arlington Heights on September 3rd 1906 giving them full city status while Amherst Township became a part of Lewisville on December 15th 1912 becoming known today as Hillcrest after being annexed by Lewisville from Amherst Township . This annexation process has resulted in additional land being added to what is nowLakewood totaling 49 acres . Two years later another annexation took place giving Parkland Heights their own incorporation which ended up creating ZIP code 44115 [24]. Lastly Summit Heights On July 1st 1934 merged with Parkland Heights resulting in ZIP code 44150 [25]. These annexations have helped make Lake wood one comprehensive community across multiple municipalities

Lakewood is a city in, and the county seat of, Holmes County, Ohio, United States. The population was 27,716 at the 2010 census. The town of Lakewood was platted on July 8, 1825 by John Dickey and James Caldwell from territory west of present-day Cleveland. The townsite became part of Cleveland when it was annexed into that city on November 3, 1836. The first post office in town was established on December 12, 1827; it closed on April 30, 1865. On October 15, 1849, Ohio Generaloga Railroad men built a depot at what is now corner Main Street and Third Avenue in downtown Lakewood. That depot served as an important link between Cleveland and Toledo until it closed in 1911. In 1870–71 J R Gorman opened a grocery store at First Avenue and Superior Streets which soon became a landmark in town due to its high quality foods and innovative methods for marketing them such as self-sealing boxes (now known as "Gorman's"). Gorman’s continued operation until his death in 1897.—Today’s corner First Ave./ Superior St., just east of Interstate 81 exit ramp., serves as home base for many local businesses.—In 1903 dentist Fenton Hulbert opened what is today one of downtown's most popular watering holes with its views overlooking both Lakes Erie & Huron.—During World War II much activity took place at Euclid Heights naval air station across I-81 from downtown where fighter planes were kept during peacetime.—Lakewood’s skyline can be seen looking southeast from I-81 exit 95B.– Today much activity takes place outdoors—- One notable building that has not been touched since before Lakewood even formed its current boundaries is Euclid Methodist church located southeast off State Route 315 just south of mile marker 231
Lakewood was founded in 1792 by James Caldwell and his brothers. George Washington was born in the town on July 12, 1793. The first post office in town was established in 1802. The name of the town originated from a woodlot near where it now stands.
