The first gun-t shirt that was manufactured in Lakewood, Ohio was a revolver holster with the words "Taco Bell" on it, produced in 1923. The first firearms manufacturing company in Lakewood was the Nite Owl Firearms Company, which started up in 1922. In 1930, the American Shotgun Manufacturing Company opened its doors and made shotguns and rifles. In 1937, Western Gun Works opened its doors and produced bolt action rifles and handguns. One of the most famous companies that operated out of Lakewood during this time was Colt Firearms Corporation. They were known for their revolvers, pistols, and shotguns.
Lakewood is a city in northeastern Ohio, United States. The population was 362 at the 2010 census. The city is part of the Cleveland–Akron Metropolitan Statistical Area. The area that would become Lakewood was settled by the Quaker community of Westlake in 1795. In 1801, General David Wooster built a gristmill on the west side of what is now Fifth Avenue and Euclid Street. A post office was established at this location in 1802, and continued to serve until 1857. In 1836, John Mathers purchased land extending from Fourth Street east to Tenth Street and north to Elmira Road; this became known as Mathers Park. The first public school opened in Lakewood on October 7, 1840; it was taught by Mrs. Fenton and Mr. Greenough from a rented house on Sixth Avenue between Euclid and Grand avenues (now University Circle). By 1860, there were 15 schools in Lakewood with an enrollment of 3,500 students grades 1-8; these were supplemented by two churches (the Methodist Episcopal Church and the Presbyterian Church) by 1870. In 1865, President Andrew Johnson designated Alma Township as eastern boundary for Cleveland Township due to increasing population density around Cleveland proper while also providing more open space for development within Cleveland Township limits – an effort which would culminate with the opening of Hillcrest Heights subdivision in 1903

Lakewood is a small town in Stark County, Ohio, United States. The population was 1,811 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Cleveland-Akron-Canton Metropolitan Statistical Area. The village of Lakewood was founded in 1825 by fur traders and settlers from Pennsylvania. The first post office was established in 1827. In 1830, the town was renamed after John Fenton Lakewood, an officer in the Union army during the American Civil War. After years of decline and neglect, Village Hall was built in 1902 and became a municipally owned building until it was sold to the City of Cleveland in 1959. In 1957, when Cleveland annexed portions of Stark County east of I-71, they also annexed all but one block of land south of Whitehall Avenue (now US 61). This left a tract including what is now Lakewood undeveloped; however, because it straddles both National Road (now US 6) and State Route 158 (now Ohio State Route 158), it became eligible for annexation by Cleveland as part of that county's official plan for annexing smaller communities within its borders. On July 12, 1960,[1] Fox Township trustees voted to annex Lakewood into their township despite objections from residents who thought that their community would be lost in the larger city's growth.[2] The following year saw construction begin on what would become village hall—one of only a few privately funded Community Facilities projects undertaken by Fox Township during its two decades as an incorporated municipality.[3] In 1976–1977[4], referendum results showed that 96% Of voters wanted to incorporate as a Village and rename themselves "Lakewood".[5][6][7][8][9] On November 5th 1977,[10], Village Hall: dedicated with much fanfare and open to public visitation since becoming operational just four months earlier;[11][12] marked one thousand years since incorporation into this unique community located about 8 miles west of downtown Cleveland proper on I-71 near Kenton Rd., adjacent to Case Western Reserve Univ., home state OFCLEANERSUITE & STATE PARK
Lakewood was founded in 1813 as a small village on the east bank of the Licking River. It grew rapidly, becoming a town in 1828. In 1836, it became the county seat of Cuyahoga County. The city was named for Lakewood Hill, a high hill near its location on the edge of what is now downtown Cleveland.
