Their daughter Anna Sills Ketchum moved to Kettering with her family and took up residence there in 1872 when she was six years old. She later became one of the first women to serve as mayor of Kettering (1914-1945). During World War II, strategic bombing raids against Dresden were carried out from RAF Station Strathaven near Carstairs by No. 617 Squadron RAF; victims included many local citizens who had taken part in anti-aircraft action under cover of darkness while their homes were being bombed nightly. Kettering was founded by John Todd in 1812 as a small village on the Scioto River. In 1835 it became an incorporated town and in 1912 it became a city. The first settler to arrive in what is now Kettering was John Todd, who built a log cabin on the Scioto River in 1812. He named his community "Kettering" after his birthplace, Liverpool, England. Other early residents were Amos Kendall and James Caldwells. A post office was established at Kettering in 1835 and remained operational until 1840; it was renamed Dayton in honor of President James Kansa of Missouri (1824-1876). The first school opened inkettering on September 20, 1836; it taught common sense morality and reading skills to children between the ages of six and twelve years old. The kettering Female Seminary opened on October 1st with Miss Anna Yates as its first teacher; she continued teaching for many years until her death in 1865. The female seminary closed due to financial difficulties in 1907 but reopened as the Dayton Female Institute two years later under new management with new facilities including a library and art room/gallery which still operates today . In 1912 Kettering became one of thirty-six cities that joined the newly formed Cleveland metropolitan area (now called Cleveland–Cleveland Combined Statistical Area). In 1946 when Cleveland–Akron merged into Cleveland–Warren County, kettering became part of that merger also known as "the pink triangle". At this time there were over 200 businesses located within downtown Kettering limits making it one of America's largest commercial areas during that time period During World War II Kettered served as headquarters for both First Army (HQ) Third Corps Headquarters located across I-75 from downtown Akron on Main Street and Ninth Air Force HQ stationed at Wright-Patterson AFB just east of town along I-271 near Gahanna Lake On July 25th 1944 General George Smedley Butler USMC presented General Curtis LeMay with an aluminum can filled with $20 million worth of weapons while he was visiting Detroit military airport which included an airstrip adjacent to Mound City Casino near Kentwood Afterward much speculation surrounded where this money came from since no such property had been reported destroyed orchards or gardens removed

On July 1, 1824, kettering Township and part of newvillage amalgamated with other parts of Medina County to form Buena Vista Township. On November 3, 1830, kettering Township merged into Muskingum County.
