Kettering is a small town in Summit County, Ohio, United States. The population was 1,362 at the 2010 census. Kettering is located on the Kettering-Daytona Beach line and is part of the Dayton Metropolitan Statistical Area. It lies near the Toledo metropolitan area to the north and Columbus to the south. The first settlers in what would become Kettering were farmers who arrived in 1797 from Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. In 1814, they donated land to form what is now Kettering Township. The township's first post office was established in 1824. In 1850, it became a city and was renamed Dayton after Ohio's capital city. In 1907, when Dayton incorporated as an independent city, it annexed much ofkettering Township including its downtown area and most of its current neighborhood on North Main Street between South High School and Market Square Drive. The annexation caused some initial economic difficulties for kettering residents as their homes were not included within the new municipality limits but ultimately proved beneficial as it gave kettering access to superior public amenities such as schools, libraries, parks and shopping malls that are unavailable to residents of neighboring municipalities

Kettering is a town in Delaware County, Ohio, United States. The population was 1,674 at the 2010 census. Kettering was founded by John Kettering and his wife Deborah in 1824. It became a city in 1902. John Kettering (1796-1866) was a farmer who raised corn and potatoes on his farm near present-day Kettering. He married Deborah Wiegand on October 20, 1823, and the couple moved to what is now the east side of town from their original home on the west side when it became a city in 1902. Deborah had been born in Newark Township, Delaware County, Ohio on December 12, 1797. John died at age 83 on July 5, 1966 in kettering.
The Kettering community was founded in 1796 by General Simon Wooster. Wooster and his family were the first Europeans to settle in what is now Kettering, Ohio. The town was named for Wooster's father, who had been a surveyor for the British government. At its peak, Kettering had a population of over 200 people. The town declined in popularity after porcelain manufacturing began to explode in the area around 1815, and kettering's only commercial enterprise was a bakery that served local residents. In 1824, kettering became an independent village when it seceded from the Village of Steubenville.
