Kettering, Ohio is a small town located in Medina County, Ohio, United States. The population was 2,851 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Dayton Metropolitan Statistical Area. Kettering is known for its agricultural products and has been called "the world's leading producer of cornmeal". The first settler in Kettering was David Gentry who arrived in 1797. The town was named after George Washington's home state of Virginia, where he had been born. In 1824, local farmer John Eaton donated land to the town for a public school and two years later, the first courthouse was built on the site that now houses the municipal building. The first store opened in 1827 and by 1830 there were three hotels and five taverns in town. In 1834, kettering set up a post office which became one of the largest in central Ohio until it closed its doors in 1990. In 1865, Kettering became one of ten townships within Medina County when it was created from parts of Ottawa Township and Scioto Township. By 1870, kettering had seven stores and twenty-eight residents while four churches served the community with membership totaling 560 people; all but one church have since ceased operations. In 1920, kettering annexed into neighboring Union Township; however this annexation did not result in any real growth until after hippie peace protests began to take place nearby during that decade; kettering then experienced a resurgence as an industry center due to increased trade between uniontownship and surrounding counties as well as development opportunities resulting from various government incentives dating back to that period including: creation of Medina County highway No. 9 (now I-75) which passed throughkettery & uniontownships as well as other areas within Medina County; construction of Waffle House restaurant adjacent to Main Street (& later additional buildings), becoming what is now known as "The K" Restaurant chain across several locations throughout central Dayton]; development along US 50/I-75 corridor leading eastward into southern Dayton resulting from numerous private investment opportunities available during that time period - some still extant today including Stoney Creek Casino Resort - which resulted both positive economic impact & also helpedto revive Kettered's once struggling economy During World War II many jobs were created through crop production such as munitions manufacturing at Fort Monmouth Ammunition Plant just outside Ofstedt township boundaries northwest of Kettering on Clinton Road NW (now I-675). A Tractor Trailer Factory was also established near present day Wooster Roadjust west of I-675 & operated until 1979 when it closed because tractor sales had dwindled due to technological advances After World War II most factories closed or moved out except for Goodyear Tire Manufacturing Company which continued producing tires here until their plant closure near present day Siegel Avenue SE (now Spaulding Drive NE) around 1984 There are several remaining businesses associated with this era such as Waffle House Chain whose original location remains open although changed over time (currently occupying an earlier building on Clinton Road NW); Old Time Radio Service Store still operating active inside former Goodyear plant used for retail radio services before conversion into apartments starting around 1978 McDonalds beginning serving food here starting around 1984 followed by Wendy's restaurants beginning opening up about 1990 All these restaurants left behind large vacant lots which have since become popular destinations for nightlife activity especially due Forks Tavern located just off State Route 725 immediately northwest corner thereof sandwiched between Two Twins bars & Pizza Place

Kettering is a small town in theUpper Peninsula of Ohio, located on the borders of Geauga County and Lucas County. The population was 1,811 at the 2010 census. Kettering is the birthplace of General George Washington and home to Battle of Bunker Hill—the first major battle fought in the United States. It also played a significant role in both World War II and the Cold War, through its production of rubber products such as tyres, truck tires, and air-filled balloons. The area that now makes up Kettering was first inhabited by Algonquians who hunted game near present-day Canonsburg before migrating westward about 1200 AD. The area became part of Geauga County when it was organized in 1813. The town's name may be derived from Old English kettringa meaning "settlement." In 1826, farmers destroyed an Indian village within sight of Kettering while hunting deer; this event is widely considered to be the beginning of agriculture in central Ohio. By 1830, kettering had a population of 100 citizens and two stores. In 1836, local officials designated land for a courthouse and jail which were built on what became Main Street. In 1850, kettering’s first post office opened with mail from Newark (now Cleveland). Prior to this time letters were sent by horseback or wagons across miles of open country between Akron and Wooster (now Decatur). In 1870, Henry Clay Clark donated land for a Mechanics Institute; this institution served as kettering’s primary educational provider until 1935 when Grange High School was constructed adjacent to Main Street. During World War I most residents engaged in agricultural work but some men went into military service; some individuals still reside here today as veterans or descendants thereof The town experienced several large fires over the years including one that burned almost all the buildings on Orchard Road between 1922-1924 which left only four standing; however none are preserved today! The Great Dayton Fire Of 1978 destroyed much property including many churches but only two – St John’s Episcopal Church on Mansfield Road and First Baptist church on Trumbull Road – remain standing today due to their location close to highways exit ramps leaving little opportunity for Restoration/Reconstruction efforts! After years during which no progress was made with restoring historic Kettering properties following devastating fire damage it finally happened 3/1/2018 after more than 5 years planning: A restoration group led by volunteers from neighboring townships “ reached out” looking for help following another devastating fire just outsideketter limits!!! This massive public response allowed state funding thru AmeriCorps VISTA grant program thru georgiauriainstituteincorporatedcoastalregiontohelpwithRestorationofHistoric properties surrounding Kettering community
