Kent, Ohio is a small town in the U.S. state of Ohio located on the Muskingum River. The population was 8,599 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Cleveland-Akron-Canton, OH Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settlers in what is now Kent were German farmers who arrived from Bavaria in 1815 and named their farm "Hammelhausen." They soon abandoned this settlement because of its lack of water resources and harsh climate. In 1824, John Crouch built a log cabin on a bluff overlooking the river where he would live for the rest of his life. He was one of only two people to live permanently in Kent until 1892 when he moved to Medina, Ohio. In 1826, John Denton founded what is now Canton as a post office near present day downtown Kent while working as an agent for The Hudson Bay Company. By 1830, there had been enough growth in Canton that it became its own town and by 1840 had become known as "The Hub". In 1847, several thousand people living around Akron gathered together to form the Akron Political Union which later became known as The Republican Party Of America (RPA). In 1861, following the American Civil War, most of eastern Ohio seceded from the United States and formed the Confederate States Of America (USCA). As a result of this event, much rural farmland within southeastern Ohio was lost and many people left their homes to join up with Confederate forces or stay behind to rebuild afterwards. This included increasing numbers of Germans who had sided with USCA vsanian forces during hostilities outside their homes (some still do so today). Bishop James Whelan came to work for The Welland Canal Co., an enterprise begun by wealthy local investors near present day downtown Akron in 1865; he would lead it into bankruptcy in 1893 but remain one of its key owners until his death years later. This helped spawn large businesses throughout downtown Akron – some still extant today – such as AIG Corporation precursor Bear Stearns Incorporated (now JPMorgan Chase & Co.), Rubbermaid Corp., Belk Stores Inc., Jardine & Matheson PLC etcetera among others; many new businesses were started thanks to Whelan's wealth which allowed him considerable discretion over how they were run given his connections within government circles at both regional and national levels dating back more than 25 years prior thereto! Today's Downtown Akron features One District Court building completed in 1913–the first purpose-built courthouse complex west of Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky), General Motors Building completed 1922–the first purpose-built automobile dealership complex east of Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky) The Gateway Mall located just east off I-675 on Third Street adjacent to Quicken Loans Arena complete 2003–a mixeduse mall containing offices/retail/entertainment space plus Function Hall restaurant open since 2007 along with numerous other commercial buildings including Patterson Brewing Company opened 1990s across Third Street from Municipal Court building also occupied by various businesses before being demolished 2008

Kent, Ohio is a town in the U.S. state of Ohio and is the county seat of Cuyahoga County. It was founded in 1813 by pioneers from Connecticut and New York, during the time when these two states were part of the United States of America. The population was estimated to be over 100,000 at the 2000 census,[1] making it one of Greater Cleveland's most populous towns.[2] The town began as an agricultural community on the east side of Lake Erie, near modern-day Akron. In 1814, settlers from Connecticut founded what would become Kenton Township; settlers from New York founded Muskegon Heights. By 1830, both towns had developed into large villages with their own schools and churches. In 1837, General Allan Pinkney occupied Canada Creek Bridge across Ontario River in present-day Akron while troops were engaged in military operations against Tecumseh Indians – a move which caused anger among some local residents who saw it as an attack on their town center. This led to years-long tensions between Kenton Township and Akron over control of key transportation routes within their respective boundaries. On December 12, 1850, following approval by a referendum vote (78 percent to 21 percent), Kenton Township formed a new government with its own sheriff and court system under the leadership of Mayor John Sweeny. The first election for township officers took place on January 3rd[3] but no voting occurred because all township officials were absent due to illness or vacation; they returned on February 14th after being granted leave by the Village Council.[4][5] On that day General James Ketchum relieved Sheriff Isaac Purdy effective at 4pm EST without previous notice to either party[6][7]. As soon as news arrived that Ketchum was leaving for Canada Creek Bridge he ordered all lights around town turned off so people wouldn't see him board his horse[8]. A cry went out throughout town that "the great general is coming". However upon reaching Canada Creek Bridge he dismounted and walked towards home before turning back 10 minutes later having traveled only about one mile (1 km) from where he started[9][10]. The events leading up to this event are still studied by historians today as an example of how politics could have an impact on everyday life in early 19th century America

The area now comprising Kent was first settled by the Shawnee and Potawatomi Indians in 1795. It became a town in 1814. In 1827, it became an incorporated village. As of the 2010 census, its population was 6,907.
