Kent, Ohio is a small town located in the southwestern corner of Ohio. The population was 9,623 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Cleveland-Akron-Muncie metropolitan area. The first Europeans to visit Kent were French missionaries and traders in 1795. They named the village after British explorer and diplomat John Kent who had explored this area in 1793. In 1814, General Ulysses S. Grant founded Miami University in downtown Akron, and Kent became home to one of its first students. The Miami University Library opened in 1907 on East Main Street and became one of the largest library systems in the United States when it acquired the property on Euclid Avenue near campus in 1960. In 1865, President Abraham Lincoln visited Kent while he was traveling through this area on his way to Great Britain. He stopped at a farmhouse on Market Road which is now known as Union Station (now occupied by the Cleveland Metroparks). This visit is commemorated with an historical plaque that stands outside of Union Station reading: "Elevation requirements for admission have been lowered since 1865." In 1922, fire destroyed much of downtown Akron including most of what is now known as Kentridge Commons Shopping Center. rebuilt as a shopping center with more than 20 stores including Sears Roebuck & Co., JCPenney, Macy's Inc., Sears Hometown Store, Saks Fifth Ave Shoe Store and Nordstrom Rack before being closed down by Target Corporation in 1999 because they did not meet Elevation Requirements for Admission set by State Board Of Education for that mall at that time; however this redevelopment never happened due to antitrust concerns from store owners surrounding their competition from KB Toys Supermarket across I-271/Old Mill Rd east side serving zip codes 45401-46401) In response to restrictions placed upon them following closure byTarget Corp., over 21 other retail tenants moved into space once vacated byTarget Corp.: locally owned businesses Desperate Housewives Pizza Place featuring local cheese sauce made from scratch daily; Wegmans Grocery Outlet becoming Home Depot; two new restaurants opening - Zaxby's Greek Grill & CafePIzza and Chick-fil-A; Chick-Fil-A openings followed soon thereafter - Papa John's Pizza ($) These restaurant openings created significant job growth for locals through increased tourism arrivals during refurbishment projects totaling $190 million.; Local evening broadcasts FOX affiliate WKYC began airing live out of studios adjacent to college football stadium filled with red brick buildings erected during construction ($130 million.). With these types of investments throughout downtown Akron’s rebirth beginning back in earnest approximately decade ago today many believe Downtown Akron has finally come back "to life".

Kent, Ohio is a small town in the northwestern corner of Ohio. The population was 5,441 at the 2010 census, which makes it the ninth-smallest municipality in Ohio and one of just nineteen towns in Summit County. The name "Kent" is derived from an early settler named John Kent and his family's farmstead on the Wabash River. The township was organized on December 12, 1812, and became part of Summit County on February 14, 1813. The first residents of what would become Kent were traders and travelers who journeyed through the area in search of new trading opportunities. By 1850, there were over 100 residents living in the township. In 1854, a post office was established at nearby New Salem and remained open until 1898. In 1870, a railroad was built through Kent to carry goods between Dayton and Cleveland; this helped to spur economic development within the town. By 1900, there were over 1,000 people living in Kent; by 1940 there were only ninety-five residents remaining. During World War II,[1] many local businesses took part in production for military materials such as munitions and airplane parts. After the war ended, many factories closed down but some continued to operate until they closed completely in 1969—a span of nearly fifty years. In 1948,[2] Mayor Hapgood created what is now known as "the Village" within downtown Kent; this initiative saw increasing development around central square which included retail shops (including a department store), restaurants/bars/cafés/, schools (one elementary school serving grades K-6), as well as a library.[3] In 2006[4], downtown Kentucky Avenue was renamed "Mayor Hapgood Boulevard". Local governments have played an important role throughout its history including providing funding for various projects such as streetlights,[5][6][7] Parks & Recreation services,[8][9] community gardens,[10][11][12] water main replacements[13],[14],[15],[16], wastewater treatment plants[17], road repairs[18], etc.—all while keeping control over basic functions such as fire protection and policing.[19]Today aspects that make up modern day life include online shopping malls with physical stores adjacent thereto like Sears [20][/21][/22][/23][/24][/25][/26]]
