By 1830, more than 100 people lived in downtown Akron and some had erected wooden buildings on what is now Waterfront Park (now Public Square). The discovery of gold near Ashtabula by Captain George Washington Sidebottom led to increasedmining activity around here which stimulated development on many fronts: railroads were built through this region for shipping ore to Cleveland; factories were constructed to make textiles, shoes, soapstone and other products; early settlers subdivided land into small lots and started up small farms; churches were built as chapels or schools; commerce flourished with goods brought overland or shipped downriver by riverboats

Kent, Ohio is a small town located in the heart of the United States. The community has been around since 1814 when it was founded by General David Wilkinson and his family. The town became a stop on the Underground Railroad as well as a center for manufacturing and trade. Today, Kent is home to a vibrant economy with many businesses and residents who share its history and culture. The town started off as an agricultural village that grew around the Wilkinson farmstead. The village was first known as Waverly after General Wilkinson's brother-in-law, William Waverly. In 1814, General Wilkinson decided to move the family from Pennsylvania to Kent so they could start anew. He named the new settlement after his father-in-law, James Kent, who had died in 1797. The first business in Kent was a post office which opened in 1816. Between 1817 and 1830, there were three churches in Kent: one Congregationalist, one Methodist, and one Baptist. In 1830, people began moving into the area around what is now downtownKent because of its fertile land and favorable climate conditions. By 1840, there were over 150 families living in downtown Kent; this number increased to over 350 by 1850 due to growth in industry and agriculture throughout central Ohio combined with population growth across state lines during the antebellum period (1810-1865). During World War II there was significant military activity taking place within or adjacent to Kent including fighter planes being built at local airstrips nearby; however no military casualties occurred within or adjacent to the town during that time frame . In recent years much attention has been focused on downtownKent given its potential for development into an arts district or commercial district using resources available close at hand including public funding from both state governments through various economic development initiatives such as MARTA (Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority) subway construction ; however no major developments have taken place within Downtown Kent specifically attributable thereto since 2006
