After a few years, he moved to what is now the parking lot of the old Rubbermaid plant on Delaware Avenue in downtown Kent. There he continued making holsters from his home until 1823 when he opened up his shop at 5th and Market Streets in downtown Toledo. In 1826, he relocated to 3rd and Elmira Streets in downtown Cleveland where he CONTINUED making holsters until his death in 1870.

The name "Kent" comes from an area near where it was founded in 1800 by John Kent and his brother-in-law David Holcombe. The area now known as Kent was first settled by Native Americans in the 17th century, when the Miami Indians occupied this region. In 1804, George Rogers Clark passed through this region on his way to save Cincinnati from Indian attack and discovered land for sale east of the Scioto River that would later become Kent Township. When he died in1809, his nephew Daniel Boone purchased what became township from Clark's heirs and named it after him – Boone Township being one of several townships organized during that time around Cincinnati under such prominent personalities as James Kieft and Anthony Wayne (the father of General George Washington). In 1850, due to enrollment growth in nearby Middletown (now Delaware), Kent Amusement Park was established adjacent to what is today its downtown square; it remains one of the most popular tourist destinations in the community today despite recent redevelopment efforts by developers seeking to demolish orangery/pumpkin patch buildings and replace them with high-end condos and office towers. Though not contiguous with modern day Cleveland Heights or Mentor, they were both incorporated into Cleveland proper only after 1907 when those areas became suburbs of central Cleveland following enactment of legislation called "The city Beautiful." On July 14, 1892—just three months before Cleveland formally annexed all seven villages within former Summit County—the village of Uniontown renamed itself "Kent". At their incorporation into Cleveland proper all seven villages had adopted English namesakes: Uniontown (John Fenton), Highland (George Rogers Clark), East Liverpool (Jeremiah Simons), Mayfield Heights (Avery Harding), West View Terrace (Adam Clayton Powell Jr.), Beverly Hills Heights (Walter Sickles) – making up then Cuyahoga County’s “seven boroughs” which included parts now insideAkron City Limits as well as zip codes 44122-44145 and 43118-43123.
