Kent, Ohio is a town located in the U.S. state of Ohio. The population was 5,827 at the 2010 census and grew to 9,711 in 2014. It is part of the Cincinnati metropolitan area and is bordered by Hamilton County on the east, Butler County on the west, and Wapello County to the north. The first settlers in what would become Kent were farmers who arrived around 1800. By 1830 they had founded a small community called Milton which became an important center for trade with Indiana and Kentucky. The town's growth began to take off during the 1850s when railroad construction reached Kent. Railroad workers began building railroads through central Ohio and needed goods or people to move along them for delivery. This created new opportunities for businesses such as hotels, stores, mills, agriculture and transportation companies to grow; all of which brought more people and businesses into town. In 1882 a local school was established; this led to increased enrollment in schools throughout northwest Ohio due to children being able as young as Kindergarten traveling long distances for education outside their homes. In 1914 Kent was chosen as one of twelve townships within Miami Township (later Muskegon Heights) in Muskegon Heights District Court case No 694-14 v United States ex rel Jane Doe et al., involving women who had been taken from Michigan Territory during the Mexican–American War without proper legal recourse by order of President Abraham Lincoln pursuant to Order No 784-10 issued February 12th 1862 (now known as Perry v United States). Accordingly on July 15th 1914 two hundred citizens of Muskegon Heights met at Orchard Park near where present day Third Street meets Lake Erie Boulevard on behalf of all township residents affected by order no 694-14 includingJane Doe et al.. A meeting document later dated September 3rd 1914 provides context surrounding this event: “It appeared that many women living within our township were not given proper notice that they could be removed from their homes because they did not meet certain qualifications set forth in Order 784-10…Many feel that they were sold into slavery” After months of protests by residents an agreement was reached whereby these women were allowed back into their homes but required wearing special clothing which showed that they belonged to another household not theirs – an arrangement which still exists today albeit under different terms There are also several surviving portraits depicting these woman who have since passed away dating back to 1892 or 1893
Kent was founded in 1795 by settlers from Connecticut. The town became a courthouse and jail in 1803, and then a city in 1823. In the late 1800s, Kent's economy grew as it became a center for agricultural production and manufacturing. In 1925, the city merged with Cleveland to form the City of Cleveland.
