Kent, Ohio is a small town in Northeast Ohio located on the border of Pennsylvania and Ontario. The population was 10,362 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Cleveland-Akron-Canton, OH Metropolitan Statistical Area. The region that now includes Kent were first settled by Europeans in the 17th century. The area became known as "The Forks" because of its location on the forks of the Wabash River. In 1803, General George Washington's army encampment was located here and it was from this location that he launched his successful Offensive against British forces during the Battle of Fallen Timbers in 1813. After America's independence from Great Britain, many families who had owned land east of what is now Akron moved to Kent to take advantage of new opportunities opened up there. This included businessman John Dennison who founded Dennison Manufacturing Company in 1817 and served as President Ulysses S. Grant's Secretary of War (1865-1869). The community also attracted waves of immigrants beginning with Germanamine refugees who arrived between 1840 and 1850; they brought their own culture with them and helped transform what would become one of America's most diverse communities by creating shops, businesses, churches and schools which continue to thrive today. In 1924, when Interstate 75 was constructed through central Ohio, one mile south of where Kent now stands, it cut off much needed access to agricultural land east of town for development plantations by large Midwest companies like DuPont de Nemours & Company and Ford Motor Company Limited – developments which would have a significant impact on both social stability and economic progress in the community over time. However, even 50 years after I-75 traffic restrictions were put into place to help promote growth within town limits instead thereof – no major construction projects have taken place within town limits due largely to zoning regulations which are still applied today without any change being made – making Kent an unique case study for how city planning can negatively impact rural areas while helping urbanites achieve successes such as commercial redevelopment or new housing developments Today there are several business districts including downtown with its dense mixture Of Craftsman/Dusters style architecture dating back to at least1920s; Pike Place Market which has been home to national brands like Macy’s since 1913; University Circle with several prominent colleges including Case Western Reserve University (14 miles away), Wayne State University (25 miles away) along with dozens more smaller universities across various disciplines; plus numerous high school academies/schools scattered throughout every block or so - all packed closely together providing real world opportunity for young people living near big box stores / Universities etc., yet not having easy access orNeighborhood walking experiences available? Kent, Ohio is a town in Warren County, Ohio, located on the Scioto River. The population was 3,811 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Cleveland Metropolitan Statistical Area. The townsite of Kent was laid out in 1813 by John Pulteney and patented to him by James Ketchum. The original name for the township was "Oaksboro", but it was changed to "Kent" in honor of General George Washington's birthplace, Alexandria-on-the- Potomac. In 1828, settlers from nearby Athens moved into what is now known as the east side of Kent and began purchasing land around present day Market Square. On March 11th 1830, they founded the village of Athens under the name "Athens Township". The town site that became Kent was surveyed in 1837 by Captain Nathan Hale with instructions to plat a town on sound ground near where he had recently discovered coal mines (now called Mount Pleasant). When construction began on market square in 1840, it took until 1862 for all residents of what is now known as downtown Kent to arrive. That year saw also its first election held – selectmen were chosen by ballot rather than through an appointed system – and soon thereafter it became one of Warren County's leading commercial centers with three banks and several stores. By 1860, when most residents left for more prosperous farming communities in Northeast Ohio or Indiana due to deflationary forces brought about by new technology such as railroads and standardization across Great Britain (and America), downtown Kent had become a smallmans' enclave typified by cigar shops and general stores typical of rural markets throughout much American Midwest during this time period. In 1868–69, Mayor Fenton erected a two-story brick schoolhouse on Market Square which served as county courthouse until 1924 when that building burned down; later replaced with another two story brick structure built between 1925 and 1927 which still stands today within sight of downtownKent's newest business district - Adams Morgan - home also since then to four branches/offices of Jackson County Treasurer & Tax collector before being purchased last year by Summit Bank for $135 million On May 9th 1898 local resident Wirt Gentry bought 5 acres adjacent to what would eventually become University Circle from Trust Company President Averill Harriman for $10 per acre making him own nearly half of all remaining land within reach of campus expansion plans at that time; thus beginning what would be over 50 years one continuous cycle OF private development ON top OF public use OF college property culminating today with over 53 million dollars worth OF GROUND FLOWS FROM THE UNIVERSITY CIRCLE TO MINNESOTA STATE UNIVERSITY AND 16 MILION DOLLARS WORTH OF COFFEE BEING SOLD BY THE UNIVERSITY IN 2018
Kent, Ohio was founded by George Washington in 1787 as a small village on the east bank of the Great Miami River. It became a town in 1802 and was named for General Kent, an American Revolutionary War hero. The city of Kent was incorporated in 1903. In 1907, the city merged with the neighboring towns of Athens and Xenia to form the new City of Kent.
