Kent, Ohio is a city in the U.S. state of Ohio and the county seat of Muskegon County. The population was 20,912 at the 2010 census. It is the second most populous city in Muskegon County after Detroit and is also one of the fastest-growing cities in central Michigan. The area that would become Kent was first settled by Native Americans in the early 18th century. In 1792, a group of brothers led by George Carlin founded what would be called Carlin's Station on Canandaigua Creek near present-day Kenton Heights. The station served as a stopping point for wagon trains traveling between Cincinnati and Toledo, and it remains an important landmark today. In 1813, General Anthony Wayne burned down part of Carlin's Station to prevent its reuse as a Indian trading post. A new stop was eventually built on Canandaigua Creek about two miles east of present-day Kenton Heights, which became known as "Wayne's Ferry." This ferry allowed goods from Cincinnati to enterMuskegon County through Lake Erie while allowing travelers from Detroit to leave without having to go through Cleveland or other eastern cities. The town of Kenton was platted in 1836 by John Cavanaugh and others under the name "Kenton Township". The township was renamed Muskegon Township in 1840 after Michigan’s first territorial governor, Moses Kimball Lansing (1784–1865). Ira William Eaton purchased land adjacent to downtown Muskegon City in 1851 when he bought land west of Main Street from James Purdy for $10 per acre ($140 per lot). Eaton made his home there until his death in 1907 at age 93 years old; he is buried at Maple Lawn Cemetery nearby (see map below). Eaton had been one of several investors who contributed money to help make downtown Muskegon into an important commercial center during its early years.(1) Eaton donated land north of Main Street where he built what is now Eaton Place; this building still stands today as part of downtown Muskegon’s first block.(2)(3) He also donated funds for enlarging and improvements to both Union Bridge Road (now I-275) and State Street.(4) These investments helped create an important social fabric within Muskegon County that continues to this day; many residents are descended from those who originally lived here.(5) For many people who live near downtown Muskegon today, their families have resided there since before they were born – some even reaching back more than 100 years!(6) Today’s prominent citizens – including Mayor Pete Buttigieg – owe their success partly to Mr. Eaton’s largesse!(7)(8)* Many wealthy absentee landlords decided not to live close enoughtothe big city so they could exert control over its political life thereby diminishing democracy thereby disadvantaging working class residents (* See footnote 9.)

Kent, Ohio is a town in the U.S. state of Ohio and the county seat of Muskingum County. The population was 11,362 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Youngstown–Warren–Boardman, OH-PA Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first people to live in Kent were Quakers who came there from Pennsylvania in 1788. They built a meeting house on what is now Main Street in 1806. In 1813, General David Trumbull founded the first post office in Kent and it was called "Trumbull." The post office changed its name to "Kent" in 1827 because of the influx of refugees from Indiana's westward expansion during that year's war with Mexico. In 1836, President Andrew Jackson moved his family to what is now Muskingum County and they soon started a farm here called "Jackson Tavern". That same year, he was elected governor of Ohio and made Kent his official residence. When he left office in 1841, he left behind an impressive home on High Street which still stands today (it was recently donated to the city). By 1860, most of present-day Muskingum County had been settled by European Americans who arrived during that decade following natural disasters along the Great Lakes region caused by American forest fires and ice storms that season. Many small towns along those lakes were destroyed as trees were chopped down for wood for ships carrying goods to market; many others were abandoned as their residents fled for safety inland when mobs filled up these smaller communities looking for looters or other criminals among those living near open water surfaces where such things could be found easily enough without too much danger or hassle). This general pattern continued into the 20th century although some small villages did manage to remain abandonment-free until around 1930 due mainly to factors such as railroad construction bypassing them or being located too close (< 50 miles)to major cities whose economies had begun growing rapidly thanks to new technology developments like automobiles). After centuries without habitation by humans on what would become Muskingum County after becoming available through land grants received from France (following French acquisition of Northwest Territory comprising present-day Ohio), Indian removal operations began under President James Knopp early 1800s targeting all remaining Native Americans east of US River Miami – including approximately one third (~ 1 million acres) area lying within present day Muskegon County – primarily because Iroquois Confederacy felt threatened by increasing white population density and encroachment upon their traditional lands eastward even further north on Huron Peninsula since ceded territory following failure of British Invasion attempt in 1795; also operation resulted partly out of frustration over delays/failures throughout earlier George Washington administration associated with various Filmore Treaty negotiations regarding future disposition/use/management etc.) resulting largely from puritanical government officials' unrealistic expectations regarding potential consequences involving large areas reserved exclusively for Aboriginal peoples!
