The name, derived from the English word "Kent" meaning "borderland," is likely derived from its location on the Canadian side of the Niagara River. The community was founded by pioneers in 1812, and became an important center for trade and commerce during the 19th century. Today, Kent remains a vibrant community with a rich history that has been shaped by its location within easy reach of major urban centers such as Cleveland and Buffalo. The first residents of Kent were farmers who arrived in 1812 to settle what is now known as the city limits. By 1830, however, it had become evident that this area was too isolated from other settlements for farming to remain a serious option. So, developers began to come up with new plans for how to use this land. One idea was to create a town based on Native American principles which would allow white people access to Indian resources while also providing them with opportunities for economic development. This plan failed because no one wanted to live near Indians who could potentially resist their interests. In 1836, local businessman James Fenton decided he needed more space and started developing what is now known as Prospect Heights into what would eventually become Kent Village. At first glance, it appeared that Fenton had made another mistake - his venture into township development would be short-lived because he did not have enough money to finance it himself! However, Fenton persevered and managed to build a successful commercial enterprise in what later became known as downtown Kent Village before selling it off in 1865. That same year saw another important milestone for downtown Kent Village when construction began on what would become Main Street (later renamed Wyandotte Avenue). This street served as both an artery connecting downtown with surrounding villages and also acted as a main thoroughfare linking east/westbound traffic coming through town center with other centres across Lake Erie – including Cleveland and Buffalo! By 1870, Main Street had evolved into one of downtown Kent's most important streets due to its strategic role within the town's economy and infrastructure. It still retains this importance today; despite being largely bypassed by modernday shopping malls over the past few decades, Main Street remains one ofKent’s most popular attractions nonetheless! Downtown Kent Village continuedTo grow throughout these years until 1906 when fire destroyed much of the village including many buildings dating back to 1836-37 like James Fenton’s original store building which still stands today at 12 Front St (now joined together by two stories) – serving as HQ for many businesses that once thrived there including JFutton insurance Agency among others during those days! tower block built along edge 2 blocks SqE fronting busy mainstreet
Kent, Ohio was founded in 1811 as a town in the Huron County seat of Medina. It grew quickly, becoming a full-fledged village in 1824. In 1836, it became an incorporated city. Kent experienced significant growth during the 19th century, and by 1886 it had over 100 residents. The population declined during the 20th century, but has since recovered to around 200 today.
