Ironton is a small town in the state of Ohio. It is located about 30 miles north of Cleveland and 50 miles east of Cincinnati. The population was 3,826 at the 2000 census. Ironton is part of the Greater Cleveland Metropolitan Statistical Area. Ironton was founded in 1814 by settlers from Maryland and Delaware who were seeking a new home after being driven out of their previous settlements in northwestern Pennsylvania and southeastern Ohio. The town's name derived from an Indian word meaning "place where the woods meet." The first post office was established in 1816, but it failed to take off because no one wanted to deal with the remote location. In 1820, Ironton residents banded together and formed a company that built a wagon road between Mentor and Youngstown so trade could be carried on directly between those two towns instead of having to go through Cleveland. This development led to increased business for local merchants and helped Ironton become known as an important transportation hub for eastern Ohio. In 1824, Ironton got its own school system when the government decided to invest in education after seeing how much progress other communities were making with their schools. The town also became home to one of the first churches in northeastern Ohio when Reverend Samuel Morse erected his church there in 1825. During prohibition, many businesses closed due to lack of licenses or customers who didn't want alcohol being sold without a license. However, most people chose not to stay away from town because they either couldn’t get liquor or didn’t want itibles around their homes (which would have violated Prohibition). In 1951, Irontonudo High School opened its doors which helped fill a need for higher-quality education near downtown Ironton despite there being no high school within walking distance at that time. As more people moved into the area over time, residential properties began becoming available for sale which led to another increase in business activity around downtown during this time period which continue until present day! Today, downtown Ironton remains an active commercial center with several large businesses including Hancock Furniture Company (a locally owned furniture store), Kwik Shop 9x9 (a convenience store), Eastern Market (a produce market) and numerous smaller stores filling up every day with what seems like never-ending shopping options! Ironton, Ohio is a small town in the Trumbull County seat of Toledo. It was settled by English colonists in 1796, and became a village in 1807. The population was 1,558 at the 2010 census. Ironton is located on the eastern edge of the University of Toledo campus. The townsite was first patented to Captain Robert Rogers in 1796. He named it after Ironton, England, where he had been born in 1745. The village charter was granted on November 12, 1807. At that time there were just 11 residents living in Ironton; by 1870 its population had grown to 376 people. In 1814 local farmers formed the Union Canal & Railroad Company to build a canal from Toledo to Scioto County (now Cuyahoga Falls). This company's president, John Hennepin, donated land for a courthouse and jail near Ironton; construction began in 1815 and finished two years later. The town site sat vacant until it was used as part of the university's main campus starting in 1909. The Village Green shopping center opened at Euclid Avenue and Harrison Street in 1957; originally built as an open-air shopping mall with 5 anchors including Sears and JCPenney, it became one of America's first enclosed malls when it closed its doors for good on December 15th, 2009 following decades of suburban growth around it along Euclid Avenue between Harrison Street and State Route 29/Trumbull Boulevard northward into Ortonville Township .

It experienced heavy manufacturing and commerce during the late 19th century, but declined after that period. In the early 20th century, Ironton became known for its summer resort industry, which included tourism and pleasure farms. In the 1930s, Ironton experienced rapid growth due to World War II support for munitions production. However, following the war, industrial production slumped and the town's economy collapsed. In the 1970s and 1980s, some revitalization efforts occurred in Ironton; however this also led to increased affluence and social problems among its residents. In recent years there has been effort to revive aspects of the town's culture including restaurants and nightlife; however these have not been successful enough to prevent it from becoming an all-year round poverty-ridden community
