Ironton’s rich past began shortly after it was founded by General James Wilkinson (1796-1836). He had come to America from England with his family in 1815 and soon found himself posted as a Brigadier General with garrison duty at West Point on Long Island before being appointed Colonel commanding Ironton Manor near Niagara Falls when that region came under British control following Canada’s War of Independence (1812). Wilkinson quickly demonstrated his ability as leader when he successfully led an uprising against British rule at nearby Dunmore Heights before moving his forces northward into Butler County where he established what would become Ironton Manor* (*see below) . The town rapidly grew thanks to these new arrivals who set about building homes, businesses and churches*. The original Mount-A-Holder was a small, plastic, device that could be attached to a rifle barrel in order to increase the range of your shots. The company ceased production in the early 1990s. In 2003, Scope Mounts introduced the first Expandable Hanger mount which allowed users to add an additional 1" or 3" of tube length to any rifle barrel with no modification required. Ironton is a city in the U.S. state of Ohio and the county seat of Lucas County. The population was 14,811 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Cleveland–Akron Metropolitan Statistical Area. Ironton has been called "The North Side of Cleveland" because it lies on the north side of downtown Cleveland and borders Youngstown to the east, Columbus to the south, and Akron to the west. The first settler in what is now Ironton was John Rolfe in 1792. In 1814, James Ketchum built a cabin on what is now Dayton Avenue in what is now Ironton Township. In 1823, Joshua Ladd bought land from John Rolfe for $191 dollars and founded a townsite called Laddville on that land. On July 6, 1824, Laddville became a city when it was incorporated as "Ironton." In 1830s several mills were built around Dayton Avenue including Galesburg & Spring Grove (later known as GEICO), Wheelock Millinery Manufacturing Company (later renamed JCPenney) and Cooks Mills Incorporated (later known as Sears Roebuck). The area around Dayton Ave NW became home to many small businesses along with housing developments such as Cardinal Gardens which fronts Dayton Ave NW between Euclid Rd./High School Rd.-and Watkins Glen Rd.- today's Arlington Heights neighborhood; also located here were Victory Gardens aka Wrigley Field - later redeveloped into One Equity Center - arena; Parma Villa Apartments (); Belmont Terrace (); Racine Place (); Radnor Square (); Willow Lawn (). In 1966-1968 Ironton saw some heavy rioting due to racial issues within its African American community following white flight from Newark Airport riots that had started two days earlier in New Jersey City outskirts where many African Americans lived until they could be relocated or compensated by government programs like placement in inner cities or poor neighborhoods away from white populations
