In 1903, Major James Tipton organized a volunteer force to help remove obstructions on the inner harbor in Cleveland so that ships could enter and leave freely. He named his unit "The Irontonian" after Ironton Township in Marion County, Ohio where he lived at the time. The first holsters made specifically for this purpose were called "Tipton Holsters." These holsters were designed by Major Tipton himself and were made out of leather with brass fittings. They proved very successful and allowed soldiers to carry their guns without fear of getting lost or stolen equipment. During World War II, many companies created holsters specifically for Military service purposes such as Colt Springfield Armory who developed a line of holsters known as "MILITARY HOLSTER SYSTEMS." The town is also the birthplace of the United States Constitution. According to the 2010 census, Ironton had a population of 7,827 people living in 2,611 households. The oldest building on Main Street – now known as First Baptist Church – was built in 1817 by settlers from Virginia named Hawkins and his wife Sarah Post. It served as the village hall until 1841 when it was replaced by the current schoolhouse that dates back to 1866! The first post office opened in Ironton on May 10th, 1872 - this building remains extant today next door to First Baptist Church! In 1916 Ironton became an incorporated city with an mayor-council form of government; however it reverted back to a Village status by 1970! The Second World War interrupted many aspects of what would become typical life for most citizens during this time period; however much remains intact including both village Common patrols and streetlights from that era! One significant event that took place during these times was when David Hackett became Mayor after being elected on November 3rd 1944 succeeding incumbent Wm Henson Jr..Hackett’s term saw dramatic changes for Ironton due largely to his work on behalf of veterans…he established veteran services bureau which provided benefits such as housing assistance and identification cards for returning soldiers…he also organized celebrations throughout town honoring war casualties…Hackett left office after two terms because he could not agree upon plans for expanding education within the city limits without gaining approval from the City Council…. Hackett later served as Mayor pro tempore from 1951-1955
