Ironton is a town in the U.S. state of Ohio, and the county seat of Franklin County. The population was 9,822 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Cincinnati–Middletown–Wilmington metropolitan area. Ironton is located on the southern border of Franklin County and is bordered by Noble Township to the east, Findlay Township to the west, Clinton Township to the northwest, and Fairfield Township to the south. The first settlement in what is now Ironton was made in 1796 when Captain James Cook discovered an area that would become Ironton while exploring survey for a new road connecting Cincinnati with Manchester, England. In 1802 John Sibley settled here after moving from Delaware Valley Settlement near Lebanon in Lancaster County. In 1814 George Stephenson built a small brick house here as his family's home until he moved to Liverpool, England two years later because of malaria which had claimed many lives among American immigrants during that time period. In 1821 local resident Elijah Morse donated land for school district No 10 southwest of present day Ironton on which we currently stand today's First Baptist Church building (built 1886). This initial donation also served as seed money for future development including our current location on Sycamore Drive just north of Route 636E off US 36W just east of mile marker 149 within Franklin County limits today! In 1824 David Ladd bought some property northeast corner Sycamore Drive and US 36W from Mr Morse for $5 per acre! As this corner became more developed it came under control of various businesses such as Bicknell's grocery store (1875), Winkleman lumberyard & ginnery (1887), Post Office (1910), Bankers Trust Company (1911) before finally becoming known as "Ladd's Addition" following David Ladd's death in 1924! In 1850 Willis Hite platted what are now parts of present day Ironton along Walnut Street between Shaker Road and Route 636E just north of current day mile marker 151 - making him oneof America’s earliest developers! His store front still can be seen today next door to The Masonic Temple across SHR from intersection with route 636E just east off highway 36W

Ironton is a small town in the U.S. state of Ohio, located on the border of Delaware and West Virginia. The population was 1,883 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Columbus metropolitan area. Ironton was founded in 1798 by John Ironton and his family as a small trading post on the Monongahela River, about northeast of what is now Columbus. The post served as a base for traffic along the then-new Erie Canal, connecting Pennsylvania with Ohio and Indiana. John Ironton's grandson, James Ironton II (1799-1868), moved to Ironton in 1828 and began developing it into a center for commerce and industry. He built a dam across the river to provide power for industries; founded an insurance company; created an agricultural fair; and donated land to build what would become Nationwide University (now Ohio State University). In 1867 he donated land to create Woodward Park, which still provides parkland today. In 1907, James Ironton III died suddenly while out fishing near Portsmouth, New Hampshire; his wife Elizabeth succeeded him as president of Nationwide Insurance Company. In her will she directed that all assets be divided evenly between their two children:James A., Jr., who became CEO of Nationwide after her death in 1962, and Deborah J., who became executive vice president of Nationwide Children's Hospital before her death in 2003. This left daughter Deborah J.'s majority stake in Nationwide at 57%.
