Ironton is a small town in Stark County, Ohio, United States. The population was 5,917 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Dayton Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settler in what is now Ironton was John Maynard who arrived in 1796 and named it after his home town of Ipswich, England. In 1814, Solomon Pratt settled here with his family and named it for Isaiah Nance (1764-1828), one of the first white men to settle in that area. Ironton became a village on December 13, 1825 when twelve citizens petitioned the state authorities to be admitted into the Union as a village. The early years were difficult for Ironton because it lacked any water resources and had to share water aerially from other villages through pipelines. But by 1830, Ironton had built its own millrace and began to generate power from its windmill which would later become one of the most important factors for growth of Ironton during its early years. In 1834, Amos Tuttle purchased land adjacent to present day Ironton and started construction on what would become the nucleus of modern day downtown Ironton. This included building a log courthouse which served as court house until 1913; constructing a schoolhouse; creating an alley east of Main Street which became commercial district; and opening up lots along High Street for settlement by farmers who could grow crops without irrigation or application of manure or fertilizer

Ironton, Ohio is a village in the U.S. state of Ohio and is part of the Cleveland-Akron metropolitan area. The population was 10,824 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Stark County. Ironton was founded in 1814 by settler David Wilkinson and named for Isaac Troup, an early Indian trader in this region. The Village of Ironton had its first election on November 3, 1814, when it voted to form a township with five townships within Stark County. On December 1, 1815, Ironton township was created and incorporated as a city by an ordinance passed by the Ohio General Assembly on December 6th (the same day that Vandalia Township was established). Ironton became an important industrial center during the 19th century because it produced goods such as flour, bacon, cheese and other products for local markets and also exported these items to other parts of the United States. In addition to its manufacturing sector, Ironton also played a significant role in education during this time with several schools opening up throughout town including: one for African Americans called "Stark Schoolhouse" which opened in 1865; one for boys called "John Gadsden Polytechnic"; one for girls called "Lena Noe Elementary School" which opened in 1915; and two high school districts - East Stroudsburg High School District #1 & West Stroudsburg High School District #2 - both of which operated from 1933-1935 before becoming part of Morehead State University system until their closure in 1998. Withdrawn from service due to World War II purposes after being used as target practice by American forces during Operation Torch landings on Algeria's coastal regions on October 17–18 1942 (), many post-war buildings were constructed or rebuilt at various sites around town including: Pfeiffer Hall (now used as apartments), North Ave., Main Street NE (now home to more than 30 businesses), South Ave./Highway 322 (now home to several apartment complexes/residential buildings), Pioneer Center etc... This included construction of Griggs Road Bridge across Cuyahoga River between Howard Rd./Pioneer Dr., now part of Lorain Rd., Irving Park Rd./Greenwich Rd., Olmsted Pike/Canal Stdwy.. But even with all these new developments came some challenges along with changes brought about by technology such as automobiles which made transportation more affordable while others like air conditioning led to declines in production values over time resulting eventually in layoffs among workers who could no longer afford new equipment or pay severance rates following plant closings throughout most industrialized countries during this period known popularly as The Great Depression ().
