In 1875, an electric railway line was built to connect Ironton with Toledo and other cities in northwestern Ohio. The town's significant industry until recently has been agriculture – its only industrial production being grain elevator building construction until recent years. However, over the past few decades there have been several new businesses starting up in downtown Ironton including 2 restaurants/bars/cafes and 1 hair salon/spa /massage parlor which are all located on Main Street near High School. There are also several small businesses scattered throughout the downtown area that offer various services such as plumbing, carpentry, Sign painting and more!
