Hudson was founded in 1814 as a small community on the Scioto River by Peter Hudson and others. The first settler in what is now Hudson was Jonas Hickey (1792–1867). By 1840, there were 10 families living in what is now Hudson. By 1860, there were 200 people living in what is now Hudson; this number increased to 300 by 1880. In 1881, railroad construction began through central Ohio and caused many local industry closures; however, new businesses slowly rebuilt thanks to transportation investment by companies such as Erie Railroad CEO George Stephenson (1813–90). In 1885, General Electric purchased several lots adjacent to where Factory Park stands today for $5 per acre; these lands would later be developed into Factory Park Drive by GE subsidiary Electrolux Corporation and some neighboring parcels surrounding it between 1982 and 1984 spearheaded by developer Raymond James Partners LLC In 1886 when general manager of Erie Railroad George Stephenson made an inspection trip through present day Hudson he noted that "the place looks like nothing but waste land." He recommended that millers abandon their operations because of lack of traffic so he commissioned engineer Wm Folsom to study ways to improve access to goods overland from Lancaster County via Kingston Road near Muskingum River which would then connect with Erie Railroad tracks at Genesee Depot east of present day Albany Avenue However no action was taken until 1889 when Wm Folsom became Director of Transportation for Cleveland Railroads Company under newly appointed Colonel John Biddle . After due diligence examinations were conducted various options were considered including building a bridge across Susquehanna River or build another road crossing just east of present day Clinton Street Bridge exactly where Factory Park stands today! A decision was made not only because of cost ($10 million) but also engineering challenges involved contracting two separate firms unable to resolve problems caused by different characteristics of soil types along river banks resulting in multiple failed attempts bridges attempted plus delays totaling six months resulted ultimately costing $27 million dollars! ..... Today we can appreciate how importantWm Folsom's report was given that without it factory parks would have been built next door on Clinton Street while downtown Harrisonburg would have been gone
