The first guns in Hudson, Ohio were made by the early French colonists. The first gun barrels in that area were made of wood and used to shoot arrows. By the late 1700s, many different types of guns had been developed, including cannons and rifles. In 1811, a group of men from Sandusky, Ohio started manufacturing gun barrels in their own factory. That company became known as the Hudson Rifle Barrel Manufacturing Company. In 1825, the company changed its name to The Cleveland Rifle Barrel Manufacturing Company after becoming part of the Cleveland Gun Manufacturers Association. In 1847, The Cleveland Rifle Barrel Manufacturing Company produced its last barrel for use with cannon. From then on, all other types of rifle barrels became available for purchase from that company. In 1897-1998, The Cleveland Rifle Barrel Manufacturing Company was merged into National Armory Corporation which is now part of Remington Arms Incorporated.

The first post office opened in 1802. In 1824, the town became a county seat with the addition of nearby Ashtabula. On October 15, 1836, as part of General Anthony Wayne's Invasion of Canada, Battle Creekwas fought between British forces under Lieutenant Colonel John Campbell andAmerican units commanded by General James Ketchum and Captain George Armstrong Smith. In that battle 10 Americans were killed and 20 wounded including members of John Campbell's unit who received promotions for their actions that day

Founded by Jacob Sutter in 1851 as an agricultural settlement on the Scioto River near modern-day Lorain, Ohio, gun barrels became one of Honesdale's most important industries after American Civil War times when Union arms began to flow into the area from Kentucky and Tennessee. In 1892, Honesdale's first paper mill was founded by Elisha Cuthbert with help from local businessman John Prentice; it soon became one of Ohio's largest manufacturers of paper products such as newsprint and broadcloth cloth. By 1920 no fewer than 10 paper mills were located in Honesdale; today only two remain: One closed in 2001 due to competition from digital printing machines; the other continues to operate under new ownership as The Paper Company LLC (formerly The Cincinnati Times-Union). In 1915 Erie Electric Railway built a line between Hudson and Akron providing transportation for goods along much of what is now I-71/I-375 through central Stark County - an early example of how trucks had become a big part of daily life in America since World War II! Today truckloads of people commute each day via I-71/I-375 to factories and jobs all over Northeast Ohio - while coming past old gun barrels lining Old State Road 9W just outside town limits!
