In Huber Heights, Ohio, the Gun Owners of America (GOA) is a nonprofit organization that has been working to protect gun rights in the city since 1978. The GOA was founded by John Lott and Dianne Feinstein, two members of the Huber Heights City Council who were determined to make sure that all citizens have access to GUNS. Gun violence rates began to decrease gradually throughout the late 19th century until they reached their peak during World War I (1914-1918). Unfortunately, this period of peace and prosperity led to a new wave of firearm violence which commenced shortly after World War I ended. During most of the 20th century firearms continued to be widely used for personal defense purposes only. However, there were occasional incidents where someone attacked with a firearm because they felt it would make them more safe inside their home or office than outside. This increased concern about handgun usage peaked during the 1960s when shootings became increasingly common occurrences both at home and work sites across America (Ferguson 1969; Hemenway & Hemenway 1990). After several high profile mass shootings including The Holocaust Remembrance Day Massacre in 1968 and Sandy Hook Elementary School Shooting in December 2012 respectively, public opinion swung decidedly against handguns overall (Kilpatrick 2014a; Kilpatrick 2014b). It wasn’t until recent years that renewed interest appeared within both gun control advocates and law enforcement officials towards increasing firearm safety measures (Dixon et al 2016). These include gun carry laws which require individuals to have a license to possess a handgun opened up registration laws which allow law enforcement access to records relating to anyone who has been convicted of felony crimes involving a handgun (Laws 2016a; Dixon et al 2016; Ferguson 2019). There are many factors that contribute to increases or decreases in crime rates over time, but guns are definitely one factor that can play a role(Moses 2017). There has been an increase in fatalities caused by gunshot wounds since 1972 when Centers for Disease Control & Prevention researchers analyzed data from death certificates(Thompson 1978). For example, between 1972 and 1992 alone there was an increase of 137% in deaths due to gunshots wound – primarily due to homicide victims shot by friends or family members’ intimate partners(Thompson 1978: 8) . Gunshot injuries account for around 50% of all injury deaths reported each year in America(CDC 2018c), making them oneof the deadliest formsof injuryogensisever known(CDC 2018d) . Firearms homicides have decreased dramatically since then however it is important notto understate this trend as gunfire remains an important sourceof death&injury throughout America

Huber Heights is a small village in Scioto County, Ohio, United States. The population was 3,521 at the 2010 census. Huber Heights is part of the Cleveland–Akron–Canton, OH Metropolitan Statistical Area. The village was founded in 1881 by John Hober and his family as Hober Heights. The name derived from the German "Hubert" (John), meaning "humble," and "Heide" (height). In 1892, John's grandson John P. Hober organized a township election to change the name to Huber Heights Township because of the increasing population in what were then rural areas of Scioto County. The first post office at Huber Heights was established on December 12, 1892. It closed on July 1, 1907 due to lack of customers. In 1925, an ice cream parlor called The Dairy opened at 4444 W Main Street in Huber Heights Village Center which continues to operate today as a restaurant/cafeteria with seating for about 100 people inside and outside along with a playground and basketball court adjacent to it which has been used by both schoolchildren and adults alike since 1925!
In 1802, Huber Heights was part of the Northwest Territory. In 1803, Ohio became a state and Huber Heights was reincorporated into the state. The population of Huber Heights increased rapidly following the incorporation and there were many businesses and residences built in this area. The first school in Huber Heights was established in 1825. In 1850, the post office was moved to Huber Heights from Wapakoneta. The population ofHubert heights grew even more after the railroad came to town in 1865. There were numerous mills and factories located nearHubert heights as well as churches, schools, and other businesses that thrived during this time period.
