The Hilliard Gun Case Company was founded in 1896 by W. H. Hilliard and his sons, Billy and Frank. The company made soft gun cases for pistols and revolvers. In the 1930s, the company changed its name to Browning-Hilliard Corporation.

Hilliard is a small town located in Medina County, Ohio, United States. The population was 2,813 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Cleveland–Akron–Canton, OH Metropolitan Statistical Area. Hilliard was founded in 1811 by John Hilliard, a clothier and landowner. The town rapidly grew and became the southernmost post office in Ohio. By 1851, it had a population of 100 people and was named for John Hilliard's father, also called John. However, by 1870, Hilliard had regained its lost ground and was renamed for its current location on the Scioto River. It has since experienced significant growth due to its proximity to Cleveland and other major metropolitan areas. In 2000, Hilliard became part of the Greater Cleveland Metropolitan Area.

Hilliard was founded by Samuel Hill in 1792. The community grew rapidly due to the land boom of the mid-19th century, and by 1875 it had a population of over 1,500. In 1894, Hilliard became a city and was renamed for Elihu Root, an American politician who played a role in pushing for civil rights legislation.
