Hilliard, Ohio is a city in Summit County, Ohio, United States. The population was 24,311 at the 2010 census. It is the anchor city of the Hilliard-Fremont-Rossville Combined Statistical Area which has a total population of 38,563 as of 2013. Hilliard was founded by George Hill in 1814 and named for him. In 1825, it became one of the first towns to be established in what is now Summit County. The town's most famous resident is Gene Autry who died there on November 25, 1959. Other notable residents include Don Knotts and Bob Hope. The current mayor of Hilliard is Jeffrey Lichtman. The City Council consists of five members: Mayor Lichtman (1st), Vice Mayor David Kapp (2nd), Councilwoman Stacy Irwin (3rd), Councilmember Rick Smith (4th) and Councilmember Carolyn Fenton (5th).

After the war, Hilliard became known for its distillery and shipbuilding industries. In 1814, Hilliard was incorporated as a village. The town experienced growth in the late 19th century due to industrialization and population growth. In 1920, Hilliard became a city after being annexed by Cleveland.
