The Hilliard Armory was founded in 1892 by W. H. Hilliard, a firearms manufacturer and supplier who lived in the area. The original armory was located on Erie Street in downtown Hilliard. In 1910, the armory moved to its current location on Elm Street in the heart of the city. TheHilliard Armory is one of only a few remaining gun stores left in Ohio that still specializes exclusively in handguns.
Hilliard, Ohio is a small town located in the northwest corner of Ohio. The population was 9,801 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Dayton-Middletown-Springfield, OH metropolitan area. Hilliard was founded on November 15, 1814 by John Hill and his family. The town's name comes from Mount Pleasant which served as the original site for its incorporation. The first post office in Hilliard opened on December 1, 1814. In 1828, a school was built and named after Mrs. HIlliard (the mother of John Hill). Reverend Ziegler attended services there until he moved to Cincinnati in 1830 to become pastor at First Presbyterian Church there. Drury College also located in Hilliard beginning in 1829 before moving to Danville west of Dayton that year. In 1840, two United States Senators were elected from Ohio: James Kefauver and Salmon Pountain Wright; both were from Wayne County (Hilliard today sits within Wayne County). They were followed by a number of other politicians including Congressman Edward Everett who represented Hillsdale Township north of Dayton before becoming Ulysses S Grant’s running mate in 44th president Ulysses S Grant’s administration From 1862 until 1865 the seat was held by Major General Nathan Bedford Forrest during Reconstruction days following the end of the American Civil War through local elections overseen by state board members with voting power only if they resided within township boundaries or had registered as citizens/ taxpayers with full civic rights within six months prior to election day; without these restrictions service could not be rendered since all troops must leave town on mobilization weekdays around muster time regardless whether they lived or worked outside township limits! On October 10, 1889 residents voted 2-1 to annex into Cleveland Township although no formal annexation took place due to lack of agreement between township officials over what type/ size roads should be constructed within newly annexed territory; this action would effectively create an unincorporated community known as "Hilliard" inside Cleveland Township boundaries today while still remaining under control and governance of Cleveland Township officials! As one result of much growth over several decades – paralleling but not identical with similar growth rates throughout much largerohio municipalities across various tax brackets resulting primarily from suburbanites moving out into older neighborhoods seeking more “comfortable living conditions” post World War II – many homes dating back centuries have been razed giving way instead to new construction often taking years just to achieve compliance with current zoning laws despite repeated requests for demolitions by historical preservation groups! In 1872, Hilliard incorporated as a village and began to develop its own economy based on manufacturing and services. The population of Hilliard exploded during this time with many new buildings being constructed including a library, post office, hospital, police department and more.
