Hamilton, Ohio is a city in the U.S. state of Ohio and the seat of Hamilton County. The population was 50,715 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Cleveland–Akron–Canton, OH Metropolitan Statistical Area. The city is located on the southern shore of Lake Erie and its downtown is a major center for commerce and culture. The University of Cincinnati (UCR) is located in downtown Hamilton while other notable institutions include: Hamlin Community College, Parma University and Cambria Health System. The first white European settler in what would become Hamilton County was George Rogers Clark who arrived in 1795 from Virginia. He surveyed lands that would eventually form what are now parts of eastern Ross Township, western Butler Township, northwestern Clinton Township, southeastern Warren Township and much of central Noble Township – including present-day downtown Hamilton – as well as areas now within Lucasville and Walled Lake townships. On July 12, 1796 he sold 811 acres (317 lots) to Nicholas Cuyler for $4 per acre ($100 total). This land would be known as "Old Town" today because it was developed primarily around mills which were built during the early 1800s by local farmers with help from United States Congressman John Adams’s Committee on Canals & Harbors to improve shipping access along the Great Lakes region.– From this location Cuyler could see both navigation on the Great Lakes plus trade with Upper Canada.– In 1806 he sold his remaining holdings to Major General James Wilkinson after serving in War of 1812 as captain under him at Fort Dearborn.– After Wilkinson’s death in 1814 his widow Martha married Andrew Clifton Blair who also had land interests here.— In 1825 Anthoni Manning bought outblair’s interest in Old Town for $5 per lot ($200 total). Today's Manning Hall building was erected between 1830-1834 on land purchased from Anthoni Manning.– In 1830 William Halleck donated land east of Main Street to build an academy which became UCR.– A series of fires destroyed most buildings in Downtown Hamilton beginning on December 15th 1836 when a large fire started near Water Tower #1 near Third & Ludlow Streets.–Five blocks north across Third Street from Water Tower #1 another large fire burned January 9th 1840 destroying Store No 2 (now Park Row House), 441 Second Avenue North (now part Of State St), 524 Second Avenue West (now Grandview Ave.), 281 Third Avenue North (now Market St.) and many more buildings including several churches; this event became known as "The Great Fire". In 1845 Henry Clay wanted to annex what are now parts of Butler township into Kentucky but Ohio refused because it thought this would lead to too many racial conflicts.— After Clay's death without any children there followed some wrangling before James Kapp acquired Clay's estate here— Kapp founded Kapp Paper Merchants Co., oneofthelargestpaper merchantsintheworldandoneofthemost powerfulfamiliesinOhio.—KappPaperManufacturingCompanybecameanationalstrongholdfor papermaking.—During World War II various businesses such as munitions plants were established here.—TodayHamilton remains an important cultural center with several popular tourist attractions like The University Of Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden and Parma University having their campuses inside or adjacent to town.--Many famous athletes have played football or baseball ball at UCR or elsewhere within town

The Hamlins were followed by others over the next few years until it became a town on July 1, 1800. Hamilton quickly grew into one of the most important towns in central Ohio due to its location and commerce. In 1803, it became part of the new United States when it gained its independence from Great Britain. It continued to grow rapidly through the 19th century with much development taking place within the town limits such as: construction of churches, schools and hospitals; growth of industry including lumber yards and breweries; addition of streetcar service; and waves of immigrants coming to work in mills and factories during this time period. During World War II there was mass production of aluminum cans at nearby Willard Paper Company which led to increased population density within the town limits as well as diminished farmland available for farming outside of townlimits which impacted local businesses negatively. In recent decades Hamilton has seen significant revitalization with several major projects completed such as: building a new library; establishment of a new police force; renovation/update/additionof numerous restaurants & cafes including one called "The Beast" which opened in early 2017 just south of town center; installation of a brand new water tower high up on a hill overlooking downtown that provides energy self-sufficiency for residents throughout the winter months while also serving as an attraction for visitors during summertime; rebranding/renovations to many local shops including two mainstay stores (The Butcher Shop & The Grocery) along with dozens more specialty stores across multiple districts inside & outside city limits recently renovated or added onto property formerly occupied by defunct businesses such as Subway & Papa John's Pizza
