Hamilton, Ohio is a city located in the Miami-Dade County area of South Florida. It has a population of over 105,000 as of the 2010 census. The city was founded by Andrew Hamilton in 1814 and named for General George Washington. The current mayor is Julian Castro. Hamilton was one of the original towns in Miami-Dade County, established in 1835. Prior to that, it was part of Muskegon Township. The township had been formed from land acquired by the Miami Company from the Seminoles in 1824 and before that from land taken from the Creek Indians by Josef de la Vega on December 9, 1796. In 1835, Hamilton became an incorporated town under state law following a vote by its citizens ratified by the Miami Company's directors at a meeting held on November 14th. It was formally designated as such on January 1st of that year when all other municipalities within Miami-Dade were granted this status retroactive to that date. The first Mayor of Hamilton was James Fenton who served from 1840 to1848 and again from 1860 to1862; he also presided over the Town Council which met twice monthly during those years In 1856 Fenton resigned due to health issues and John Morehead succeeded him until his death two years later Morehead is credited with developing civic pride among local residents who felt they could not effectively serve their community without an elected leader After Morehead's death his widow Anna took control until her husband's death in 1870 . Anna then passed power down through her children until she gave it back to government officials upon her death in 1922 . From 1922 until 1962 it was headed up by four commissioners appointed jointly by both houses of legislature During World War II there were three periods during which Hamilton served as an Army Air Field ; however no military units ever stationed here permanently and all troops departed after hostilities ended During this time there were also significant economic changes taking place throughout much of South Florida because Ofthe war; many jobs opened up thanks largely to new GI arrivals who brought new technologies with them Most notably Chattanooga Steel Works , which employed more people than any other American steel plant between 1918 and 1945 Hamilton experienced major growth following World War II with construction projects such as Pembroke Pines Airport (now Hialeah Airport) being built adjacent to downtown along Constitution Avenue ; Seaworld Key Largo opened nearby across Dixie Highway; Sears Tower (built 1957) went up next door; Aquarium Rescue Unit moved into downtown while CenturyLink Field (opened 2002) relocated several blocks away Finally numerous small businesses closed or decreased business activity due largely to competition associated with larger institutions like Walmart etc In recent decades automobile production has become increasingly important here too With Ford Motor Co.'s plants located just outside town limits producing mostly sedans while GM makes large SUVs including Ferraris both within town boundaries as well as car dealerships insideSEAT AlhambraProduction shifted entirely towards Citroen last yearwith just one factory left standingIn 2006 plans called for Mercedes Benz AGUSAto open a dealership here but this never happened and now SEAT Alhambra produces only Citroen cars
