He built a log cabin and later purchased land which he developed into a small town called "Hamilton." The first post office was established in 1824 andStayner's store became the first commercial building in Hamilton. In 1836, a deep well was drilled by James Stayner near modern day Republican Street and East Main Street and Andrew Priest opened his store next door to stayinger's store. Reverend Priest started Axtell Academy which graduated its first class of students in 1840. Reverend Priest also built a church on West Main Street that served as both school and church until 1927 when it burned down. In 1870, David House moved to Hamilton from Bellevue Township, Indiana with his family after purchasing 640 acres (248 ha) of forested land east of Dayton along the Scioto River. He laid out homes around what are now downtown streets including Delaware Avenue/Highway 7 andWest Main Street while continuing to operate a farmstead named "House Farm" across from present day State Route 1227 west of Dayton off Interstate 75 outside the city limits for many years until his death in 1916). From House Farm there were several generations of Housley descendants who operated their own farms & businesses throughout central Ohio before moving away during World War II to California & other parts of North America where they continue their agricultural operations today

The city was founded on July 11, 1814 by Colonel James Knoebel as a small military post near what is now downtown Cincinnati with a population of just 10 people. On November 25, 1819, Hamilton became the first American town to be chartered as a municipality when it ratified an ordinance creating a Board of Trustees to manage its government. In 1840, after many years of growth and development, Hamilton incorporated as a city under the name "Hamilton." The early history of Hamilton can be traced back to 1795 when General George Washington visited Upper Canada and surveyed present-day Hamilton Township for his proposed new capital for Great Britain's North America possessions. After completing his survey he recommended that Kingston be chosen as the future capital due to its strategic location midway between Toronto and Montreal; however before he could make his recommendation King George III overruled him and chose Burlington instead (later York). However during that same year British forces defeated United States forces at Fallen Timbers and took control of Fort Pitt which later became Pittsburgh. As this happened Congress passed an act called The Treaty Of Paris which ended the War Between THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA AND BRITISH COLUMBIA (1812-1813) after 5 months worth of fighting including 200 000 casualties on both sides In order to finance their war efforts President James Knoebel offered $10 per capita towards education in what would become known as The Knoebel Plan which eventually funded 220 schools throughout America Aftermaths from The War led to increased demand for land in what would become Cincinnati so upon General Arthur St Clair's victory over Native American Indians in 1798 along with others who had fought on either side duringthe war western settlers started moving into what are today Hamilton Township, Clinton Township and parts of Brownstown Township Kansas Territory was also annexed by Kentucky shortly thereafter becoming known as Indiana Territory . This change left much land unclaimed within Indiana Territory including present day Cincinnati although some individual families managed to purchase parcels over time In 1800 John Sutherby petitioned Governor William Henry Harrison for permission to build a road from Pennsylvania through central Indiana but received no response so he built one himself starting from what is now 4th Street in downtown Cincinnati . At first only wealthy individuals or companies were able to sponsor roads but eventually more people got involved making roads not just through their neighborhoods but also out into rural areas

After Polk's death in 1845, Hamilton served as Vice President under John C. Fremont before retiring from politics in 1850.
