After that time, most of the artillery used in the American Revolution came from cannon brought over by Commodore Christopher Columbus Roebuck in response to British efforts to build gunboats off the coast of Ohio.
Hamilton, Ohio is a town in Northwest Ohio that was founded in 1814. It is the seat of Hamilton County and the largest community in the county by population. The town has a census-estimated population of 36,884 as of 2018. Hamilton is also home to the University of Michigan–Dearborn Campus, one of the largest higher education institutions in Michigan. Hamilton was founded on Valentine's Day, 1814 by Major John Cranch and his family who set out from Youngstown, Ohio for what would be their new home. The town grew rapidly due to its location at the junction of two major routes: direct trade between Detroit and Cleveland allowed for easy access to goods, which helped give rise to a handsome downtown district that still exists today. In 1830, Hamilton became part of what was then called "The Village" which included all but 10% of present-day Hamilton Township. By 1840, however, most residents had removed to larger towns or villages east or west of Cincinnati due to advances in transportation and other changes within Ohio society wrought by industrialization throughout much ofwestern Pennsylvania (the area now included within Cincinnati). During World War I much effort went into developing munitions plants around Hamiltonshire; many workers were sent there during wartime shortages caused by prohibitionism at home. After the war ended production moved back to Dayton where it continued until 1979 when it moved again - this time across state lines - to become part of Middletown, Connecticut. From its early days as an agricultural center (a sector that continues to play an important role in local economy), Hamilton developed into an industrial center with businesses such as United States Steel Corporation (USSC) and Avon Rubber Company manufacturing automobiles and other hardware products; these companies have since disappeared but remain significant landmarks in their districts today. Other notable employers include American Carpenters' Union Local 827 (now known as Carrier Airlines) which built a large plant on Main Street; Ford Motor Company closed down its operations here after World War II but remains prominent through research programs administered by Wayne State University's Institute for Research on Automotive Manufacturing (); Holmes Rubber Co., successor company to Swift Industries Inc.; Erie Savings Bank owned numerous stores including one now located inside UPMC Mercy Hospital campus; Bendix Electric Boat & Machine Works produced submarines starting with USS Snively () during WWII before moving production ashore at Sykesville Naval Shipyard adjacent Harbor Cove Marina;; both PNC Financial Group headquarters[and] most recently One West Place[have been] located just outside city limits adjacent [to] Job Corps training facilities on Nationwide Boulevard

Polk in 1849. The first post office opened in 1872. The town became a city in 1907 when it merged with neighboring Cleveland following a referendum vote by its citizens. Hamilton has long been known for its industry including pharmaceuticals, brewing, automotive parts manufacturing, textiles and other manufactures as well as its diversity which includes people from all over America who have made their homes here since before white settlement began on this continent some 10,000 years ago according to local historian Peggy Greene Rice-Estrin Museum Historical Park brochure (1993). Today's economy leans heavily towards services such as health care, education and retail while also enjoying growth within agriculture through private companies like Monsanto seed production that has generated jobs throughout the region since early 20th century (Drake Media site; "Monsanto products help fuel US comeback" - Reuters 22 Sept 2009). In recent years much attention has focused upon Hamilton's revitalization project spearheaded by Mayor Tim Hudak which saw major investment being made into downtown areas including new lighting systems, renovated parks etcetera (www2/hamilton_OH_MayorTimHudak). Withdrawing manufacturing jobs away from old downtown sites has not led to any significant economic decline however this type of redevelopment can take time so job retention should be monitored closely; nonetheless overall there is promise for Hamilton's future both during present times and into future generations thanks to Mayor Hudak's vision!
