Greenville, Ohio is a town in the U.S. state of Ohio with a population of 79,691 as of the 2010 census[1]. It is part of the Dayton–Middletown, OH-DE-KY Metropolitan Statistical Area. The city is named for General James Wilkinson who fought in the American Revolution and played an important role in creating the United States Constitution. The city was first established in 1802 when Colonel Solomon Northrop built his home on land he had purchased east of Greenville Creek. Northrop also built what is now known as Northrop Hall which served as both a schoolhouse and courthouse until it was destroyed by fire in 1814. In 1815 Colonel George Washington Smith platted the town on land that he had acquired west of Greenville Creek and named it after himself. The town would only grow slowly until 1840 when John Sheehan developed much needed farmland to the south of Greenville Creek within present day Wright Township[2][3]. The growth continued until 1860 when smallpox caused an outbreak that killed more than 100 people in northeast Ohio[4]. By 1870 there were only 10 homes left in Greenville[5] but by 1880 there were 350 residents living throughout five townships including Wright Township[6]. In 1907 Greenville became one of ten communities selected to participate in what would become known as “The Great Cleveland Experiment” which aimed to improve agricultural production through crop rotation, aeration and other measures[7]. After years of experimentation some success was achieved such that during World War I local farmers were able to provideFeed for up to 1 million soldiers while at the same time reducing unemployment rates across all sectors Today many aspects continue to be improved such as electric vehicle charging infrastructure being available at two locations; one located near downtown and another just outside Wright Township

As part of this process, many ancient buildings from Clearwater and other towns within the merged municipality were demolished and replaced with new structures such as city hall and municipal court building – both now considered important tourist attractions within Cleveland's borders.
