Green, Ohio is a small town located in the southern part of the state of Ohio. The population was 1,812 at the 2010 census. Green has been inhabited since 1788 and its first settler, Nathan Bedford Forrest, donated land to the town for a public square. When Green was founded, it was one of twelve towns in Hamilton County. In 1802, Green became an independent village and in 1803 it became a city. On November 3, 1837, Green incorporated as a city under the name of Cleveland with a population of 1201. The city's first mayor was John Prentice Welles. Cleveland annexed neighboring townships on December 4th (the day after General Harrison's victory over Tecumseh), giving Green a total population of 21 districts or wards: 5 wards had no residents living within them because they were annexed by Cleveland; 2 wards had their residents expelled from Cleveland for voting against incorporation; and 10 wards were divided among Cleveland and its surrounding municipalities as part of the annexation process. The remaining 13 wards made up what is now eastern Ohio's Cuyahoga County seat (Cleveland). The early history of Green can be found through research into local newspapers which have been preserved in the Library of Congress collection since 1836-37. One such article is "A Sketchbook History Of Cincinnati" which chronicled life in Cincinnati during this time period. In addition to articles about local events and people from that era there are also many images and documents related to Green available online dating back to 1800-1836 including land deeds, school records etcetera Green experienced economic hardship during World War II but persevered through tough times with some notable accomplishments such as being one of only two cities statewide that did not suffer damage from bombing raids conducted by America's Axis allies during that conflict In recent years there has been much progress made both economically and physically within Green with several new businesses starting up as well as significant redevelopment projects taking place on downtown streets including renovation/upgrading Walker Avenue Corridor between Euclid Avenue/Garnet Street and Euclid Avenue/Northeast Side Boulevard into an urban mixed use district which features retail shops along one side while residences are situated along another side adjacent to Lake Erie As mentioned earlier, due to its location within easy commuting distance for most jobs throughout central Ohio it played an important role in developing this area into oneof the most dynamically active areas in metropolitan Columbus - home to community theaters, restaurants and other businesses incubating young entrepreneurs - until recently topped by nearby Greater Dayton . Today however much activity takes place further west near Zanesville where more manufacturing plants have closed down while other factories relocated or closed altogether leaving areas like Middletown without employment opportunities Furthermore contemporary manifestations - like streetcar lines running right past downtown entrances providing easy access to all types of shopping Districts east / south / north etc., making downtown almost universally accessible even on weekdays when business rates are highest elsewhere - continue an legacy established by prior generations who were able to support vibrant neighborhoods despite difficult times
Green, Ohio is a city in the U.S. state of Ohio and the county seat of Holmes County. As of the 2010 census, its population was 18,723. It is part of the Akron–Middletown–Dayton metropolitan area. The city was founded in 1811 by humorist James Fenimore Cooper as Grosse Pointe on what is now Lucas Heights Boulevard and became a town in 1824. Green's first school opened in 1830. It grew to become one of the largest cities in Ohio with an estimated population of over 200,000 by 1840. In 1851 it merged with Middletown to form a new city named Dayton, but reverted back to Green name due to lack of consensus among residents over which name should be given to their new city center.
