The Green Townshiphome to Green and White townships lying east of Dayton was organized in 1802 as part of Scioto County. In 1824 its name changed to that of Green Township due to an act by the General Assembly which named all Scioto County townships after trees or plants (such as "Oak", "Willow", etc.). In 1837, when Scioto County was divided into Trumbull and Belmont counties, Green Township became part of Trumbull County. In 1850 it became a part of Belmont County again when it was split off fromBelmont because of land acquisitions by that county. It remained withBelmont until its annexation by Dayton in 1907. Green, Ohio is a small town in Wexford County, Ohio, United States. The population was 1,521 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Dayton–Middletown–Wilmington Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first Europeans to arrive in what is now Green were French settlers in 1789 who established a fur trading post there. The area that would become Green was first settled by Native Americans in the 1800s. In 1814, when Ohio became an independent state, Green was included within Wexford County and it remained so until 1837 when it became part of Warren County. A post office was established at Green in 1829, and it remained in operation until 1912. In 1907-1909 Masons built a Masonic temple on Main Street which still stands today as one of the most prominent landmarks in Green. This temple served as both a community center and local parish church for many years before being sold to the Dayton-Middletown-Wilmington Metro Statistical Area (DMWMA) on July 1, 2009 and renamed "Green Township Municipal Center" after township administrator William J. Cook Jr.. On October 15th of that same year (2009), the property next to the Masonic Temple became home to America's first open air recycling plant – Recycling Masters – which began operations with over 2 million pounds of recyclable materials hauled away daily! Green has experienced many changes throughout its history including changing names several times; from Indian settlement site to Logansburg Settlement Site to Grosse Pointe Settlement Site to Greenfield Settlement Site before finally becoming known as Green Township on December 12th 1850 during President James K. Polk's State visit to our county seat!
Green, Ohio was founded in 1795 by General George Washington and settlers from the British Isles. The city was named for the large area of forest that surrounded it at the time. In 1814, Green became part of the United States after a referendum vote.
