Girard, Ohio is a small town in the heart of the state of Ohio. The population was 1,824 at the 2010 census. Girard is located in southwestern Stark County on the eastern edge of the Finger Lakes region. It is bordered by Delaware to the south, Ottawa to the east, and Lake Erie to the northwest. The community began as a log cabin settlement on trends point near what is now Girard High School. A post office was established there in 1836, and by 1860 it had acquired its present name of Girard after J.B. Girard, who donated land for it. In 1870 Girard had two stores and six residents; by 1880 it had three stores and twenty-one residents. In 1902 it became an unincorporated community under the jurisdiction of Stark County while still maintaining its own government with a board of trustees responsible for public education and other social services. In 1906 Girard's first church was built: First Baptist Church (later known as First United Methodist). The Garmon family founded The Garmons Paper Company in 1907 which continues today as one of Ohio's largest paper companies with over 500 employees statewide including eighty-six in Girard. Other important early businesses include The American Dental Supply store (now defunct), US Steel Mill No 9 (now defunct), and Western Electric plant No 5 (now defunct). The current incarnation of girard begins when local resident Clarence Weisfurth started construction on his home/apartment complex on what would become Old Town Square in 1963; this development later became known as "The Village". Overcoming several challenges during its early years such as low quality building materials, financial difficulties due to recessionary times and neighborhood opposition – ultimately resulting in Weisfurth's death – "The Village" eventually attained recognition both within and outside of town as one of America's most successful new communities thanks to its innovative planning process which featured participatory budgeting, open markets, density bonuses for homeownership among others initiatives which helped create an intentional community that resembled traditional Dutch villages rather than simply suburban housing developments popular during that time period across much OFDRAUMAUSLAND area

Girard is a town in Licking County, Ohio, United States. The population was 1,583 at the 2010 census. Girard was founded in 1811 and named for Jean-Baptiste Girard, an early settler. The town became a stop on the Underground Railroad during the American Revolution. It was burned by the British in 1794. In 1821, Girard was renamed to its current name after François-Xavier Girard, a French missionary who had served in nearby Geneva Township. The first post office in Girard was established on December 12, 1811, with Wm. Higginson as postmaster. The last post office closed on October 15, 1966; all mail within Girard then went to Geneva Township. In 1851–1852, Henry Clay Frick built a sawmill and gristmill here that were used until 1865 when they were replaced by two larger mills which still stand today - the Fricks Mill (built 1853) and the Baldwin Mills (built 1893). In 1861–1862 John Pendergrast erected a log cabin near what is now Main Street to serve as his hotel while he awaited approval from Ohio Governor Andrew Johnson to build his own mill complex including an arsenal and powder magazine eighteen miles north of Columbus; this project never came to fruition due to opposition from local politicians including Powell Mayor James Aiken who threatened legal action if it proceeded. On November 10th of that year Frick died suddenly after years of effort culminating with his construction of one of Ohio's largest log homes – “Frick” – just east of Main Street visible from present day Third Street between Elmira Road and Highways 22nd Avenue N/W just south of Interstate 464 / I-470 junction Ralph Waldo Emerson stayed at “Frick” for three nights while en route home from Cambridge MA on November 17th 1860 while under contract by President James Buchanan for literary criticism services rendered during his trip through central America In 1870s Hiram Fuller brewery began production here which continued until 1907 when it dissolved due to Prohibition led by president Grover Cleveland . Today only two foundations remain standing: one dating back to 1904 (the Hiram Fuller Foundation) commemorates Fuller's refusal to sign an agreement providing alcohol sales for religious institutions during prohibition; also located on Third Street between Elmira Road N/W and Highways 22nd Avenue N/W are remnants of another large brewery known as Fullers Drug Store which operated from 1903 until its closure in 1970 . One interesting building associated with early industry is currently vacant as it has been converted into apartments: The Gifford Manufacturing Company located at 601 North Main Street which operated from 1870 until 1912 producing barrel making machinery used throughout southern USA
Girard, Ohio was founded in the late 18th century by a group of English Settlers. The town was named after General James Girard, who fought in the French and Indian War. The first store in Girard was built by John J. McNaught in 1811. In 1841, the town became a post office with Pomeroy as the first mail carrier. In 1907, Girard began to build its own jail and jailer's block. That same year, it also annexed the neighboring community of Strongsville.
