Grant's army. The townspeople responded by manufacturing guns for Grant's troops as well as other American officials. After the war ended, some members of the community worked to revive the industry and continue manufacturing firearms in Girard until 1960. Today, there are still several gunsmiths operating in Girard that continue to make firearms for individuals and businesses alike. The town is named after Jacques-Joseph de Girard, a French general who fought in the Seven Years' War and who later served as governor of Quebec. In 1892, James Girard opened a grocery store in what is now the downtown area of Girard. He also bought land which he used to create a quarry that produced stones for buildings and other products in the early years of the town's existence. In 1958, girardi was renamed after Driscoll Ryan, an American doctor who served as president pro tempore (a position equivalent to minority leader) on the United States Senate Committee on Health and Human Services during the Eisenhower Administration. Today, Girard has thrived as a bedroom community for suburbanites living north of Cleveland; however there are still some businesses and services that provide economic stability to residents hereabouts including: a post office (1929), bank (1895), printing press (1898), restaurant (1974), bookstore (1978), chiropractor clinic(1991), dry cleaner/laundry service(1986). Although much has changed since then - with more people moving into nearby suburbs - many aspects remain constants like its close proximity to Interstate 80 and its vibrant history!

In 1892, John Pearsall erected an elegant stone courthouse in honor of Judge John A. Jewett who had presided over the court during much of OH's early growth. Judge Jewett also played an important role in founding Girard Academy which still thrives today as one of Central Ohio's leading educational institutions. The townspeople hard worked to maintain their cultural heritage while adapting to modern times until World War II brought many challenges such as widespread wartime housing shortages that forced many businesses closed or relocated across town lines; displacement of local residents due to ;the demolition and rebuilds within OH following two natural disasters – The Great Lakes Flood (1948) and The Sandusky Earthquake (1974). Additionally, concern about potential environmental damage from heavy industry led to increased regulation throughout thetown during this time period; eventually leading to some positive changes including establishment of a recycling program in 1984 which has since grown into one of Eastern Ohio’s largest private sector initiatives; establishment of a water filtration plant which now serves all aspects of Girard’s economic development; creation/promotion/adoption by Girard Township Of its own Community Development Plan (CDP); subsequently lead to increase in property values within town limits as well as becoming one RIlinized municipality with corresponding Tax Increment Financing Authority funding for various redevelopment projects throughout its History Today, with continued investment by both business leaders and citizens alike, there are new opportunities available for everyone who resides within Girard boundaries: education, recreation, healthcare & commercial development – totaling more than $2 billion dollars has been invested statewide alone since 2005!
