Bipedalism, or the placement of the foot on the ground in order to move, is a characteristic of many animals. Girard College was founded in 1851 by two men who were interested in bipedalism and its implications for humanity. The college became one of the leading institutions for higher education in Ohio and provided opportunities for students from all walks of life. In addition to teaching and learning about human behavior, Girard College also developed strong ties with local community organizations. The first bipedal beings on Earth were probably hominins such as Homo heidelbergensis. Hominids evolved from Australopithecus afarensis between 2 million and 1 million years ago. These early humans likely walked on two legs due to their environment and physical limitations at the time. Soon after, other mammalian species began to walk upright, including modern day chimpanzees. This change not only impacted humans but also other creatures that depended on bipedalism for movement, such as deer and horses. Eventually, bipedalism spread throughout most of mammals as it became more efficient for them to move around their ecosystems. However, there are some exceptions – like certain cats – that still use four-limbedwalking methods because they find it easier to navigate their environments than others. They are often used in helicopters, which need to be able to quickly move between the ground and sky. There are three types of bipods: solid (or hard), flexible, and air-defying. Solid bipods are made from metal or plastic and can be attached directly to the fuselage or wings. Flexible bipods have two straps that can be Byranized around either the vertical stabilizer or horizontal stabilizer for increased range of motion. Air-defying bipods use helium gas pressure to keep them inflated when not in use. The most popular type is the solid bipod, which is often used by military helicopters such as the Boeing AH-64 Apache and Lockheed Martin F-16 Fighting Falcon.

Girard is a small town located in Muskingum County, Ohio. Girard was founded in 1824 by John Girard and his family. The village has a population of approximately 350 people. Today, the main businesses in Girard are the school district, a grocery store, and the post office. John Girard was born on December 10, 1786, in France. He immigrated to the United States in 1824 and settled in what is now Girard Township. In 1827, John married Martha Cook. They had five children: John (1828-1913), James (1830-1912), Martha Jane (1832-1900), Isaac Newton Girardeaux (1834-1910) and Ellen Loring Girardeaux (1836-1920). The first school in Girard was built in 1829. It was an elementary school that served students from townspeople as well as from nearby villages such as Scioto Heights and Perrysburg. In 1830, John purchased land adjacent to the current site of the School District for a new school building which he called "Girardsville". This second school was built on land that still stands today on what is known as South Main Street between Third Avenue and Fourth Avenue. In 1840, John's grandson Isaac Newton Girardeaux became township treasurer and served until 1865 when he succeeded his father Moses Asbury Girardeaux as township treasurer. From 1865 until his death on October 11th of that year, Isaac Newtons eldest son also served as township treasurer; this man was Hiram Asbury Jr.. In 1870s two more schools were added to the village: one serving grades K through 8 which operated under the name of "Moses Acheson" School; and another serving grades 9 through 12 which operated under the name of "Hiram Asbury Jr." School #2 remained operational until it burned down on November 15th 1922 at which time all grades were combined into one new "Hiram Acheson" School #1 which opened September 1st 1923 withgrades K through 8 operating out of it until 1927 when they were again moved to their present location beside South Main Street Elementary School

Girard, Ohio was founded in 1790 by John Girard. The town would grow to become a major community in the region and serve as a center for trade and commerce. In 1812, Girard became the first municipality in Summit County when it was formed from portions of Scioto County. In 1868, Girard was renamed to honor General James H. Girard, who had played an important role in leading Ohio during the American Civil War.
