In 1892, Girard had its first factory producing ammunition. This was a small operation run by four individuals, including one of Girard's founders, J.P. Beauregard. The company produced only shotguns and rifles at the time, but production grew in 1897 when it moved to a larger facility on Main Street. In 1902, the company became Girard Ammunition Manufacturing Company and began making ammunition for rifles as well as shotguns. The company continued to produce ammunition until 1954 when it merged with Winchester Ammunition Corporation to form Winchester-Winchester Incorporated.

Girard, Ohio is a town in and the county seat of Lorain County, Ohio, United States. The population was 21,567 at the 2010 census. Girard is part of the Cleveland-Akron-Canton Metropolitan Statistical Area. Girard was founded in 1792 by French merchants and settlers who arrived on the Great Lakes region when they were driven out of their original settlements along the lower Michigan River by Native Americans. The first post office in Girard was established in 1806. The community took its name from Jean-Baptiste Girard, a French fur trader who had settled near what is now Aurora Township in 1792. In 1836, investors organized the village of Girard into a town under the leadership of Mayor John Denton. During World War I (1914–18), American soldiers served as guards at an Allied munitions plant south of town; this job gave rise to the name "Arsenal Heights". The city's growth during World War II (1939–1945) was due to its proximity to Lake Erie and its role as a manufacturing center for aircraft parts and shipbuilding products produced by Burmese engineers working at Cuyahoga County's Beech Aircraft Corporation during that war period. Assembling these parts required long days on site surrounded by heavy machinery; such operations generated high levels of noise which led to health problems among workers and residents alike. After years of debate over whether or not to build an airport within Girard limits, voters passed a resolution endorsing one in 1959; this decision helped stimulate economic development around that time and led to today's air traffic congestion within downtown areas only40 minutes away from Cleveland Hopkins International Airport via Interstate 71

In 1873, the U.S. Patent No. 3,912,089 was issued to George Armstrong Smith for a new type of revolver that used either black powder or percussion cap ammunition. This revolver was called the "Armory Pistol." In 1898, Smith and Wesson introduced their Model 870 revolvers which featured a revolving cylinder with five rounds in each magazine. These revolvers were very popular and became known as "The Army Revolver." The first handgun to use this system was the Colt 1900 Police Positive revolver which was made in 1899. In 1903, Smith & Wesson introduced their Model .38 special revolver which featured a shrouded barrel and an adjustable rear sight.
Girard is a home town in the Cincinnati, Ohio area. The population was 9,883 at the 2010 census. Girard is situated in Hamilton County on the southern bank of the Mahoning River. Girard was founded by Frenchmen Pierre-Simon de Laclos and René Marquette in 1803 as a fur trading post on the east bank of the river. The first settler to arrive here was Francois Parenteau in 1807. He erected a log cabin and named it Fort Duquesne after General James Duquesne, who had conquered Pittsburgh during the American Revolution. The Dutch fur trader Hendrick Hudson also passed through Girard on his way downriver to find new land for trade with Native Americans. By 1800, over 100 families were living here and businesses such as grist mills and livery stables flourished. In 1808, John Ralston Purcell arrived from Scotland with his family and set up shop here as a merchant tailor before becoming one of America’s most successful entrepreneurs. After years of hard work and investment, he became one of Girard’s wealthiest citizens – responsible for building many of its major landmarks including United States Hall (now known as Western State University), which now stands on downtown Girard’s Main Street square; Ralston Park; and Jarvis School (now known as Fairview School). In 1840, when Ohio became a state, Girard voted to become part of that state alongside all other Hamilton County townships except Lyonsville because they felt their importance outweighed that of Lyonsville – an acquired community formed by settlers from neighboring states who had moved into this region during the early 19th century. However, despite comprising only 2 percent of Hamilton County’s population at its peak in 1850, Lyonsville rapidly developed into one of Cincinnati’s leading business districts – thanks in part to its location just south of Interstate 75 on what is now Broadway Avenue – while Girard languished behind both socially and economically speaking2 . It wasn’t until 1861 that local activists persuaded Governor William Hickey to order the county seat be moved from Lyonsville to Girardi so that more people could benefit from its growing commercial opportunities3 . Today much like then-Mayor Rich Kaporzka said back then: “This place has been taken careof too long by those who don't appreciate it or want to help it - we've got to change that soon or our Foundation will give up trying4″5
Girard was founded in 1806 by a group of Frenchmen who came to America to make a new life. Girard is the only town in Ohio and the only municipality in Lawrence County. It had an population of about 350 people when it was founded, but by 1860 it had shrunk to about 50 residents. The town center was destroyed in a fire in 1865, and the remaining buildings were demolished around 1880.
