Garfield Heights is a town in Mahoning County, Ohio, United States. The population was 12,993 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Columbus metropolitan area. The first gun sights in Garfield Heights were built by Captain John Fetterman and his son-in-law, Lieutenant George Stephenson. In 1868, Captain Fetterman opened a shooting range on State Road 9 east of town. This range became known as "The Fettermans' Gun Shop". In 1903, Major John J. Knox began construction of what would become home to the Garfield Heights Police Department. The first building on Main Street now functions as the department's headquarters and administrative offices. Construction of the new police station ended up costing $2 million dollars and took 26 months to build; it was finally finished in 1904. In 1907, Colonel James Prentice founded an armory complex located one block north of town off State Route 9A (now Fifth Avenue). At this facility, Colonel Prentice developedFN Browning rifles and pistols for use by the Ulysses S Grant Presidential Library Foundation's American Firearms Museum in Springfield, Illinois. The museum closed in 2009 but some guns still remain within the complex today including a Colt Model 1860 Army rifle which has been loaned out for exhibition purposes at various events throughout central Ohio since 1978! In 1911–12 Mayor Wm Broughton established a park adjacent to Municipal Stadium which eventually became known as Parkside Park after being donated by Hiram Spencer Parker III (founder/presidential candidate from 1916–21) when he purchased land adjacent to Garfield Heights High School site next door to make way for his dream project - a community center that would serve both schoolchildren and adults alike! When Parkside Park was dedicated it included a playground (later demolished), tennis courts (demolished), baseball diamonds (now housing an apartment building), running tracks/swimming pools (now used as parking lots), Scott’s Drug Store & Cafe which stood until 1951 when it burned down (!), basketball courts (& another demolished!), later becoming Trailblazer Recycling Center & Arena with its current name – “Garfield Heights Community & Cultural Center” before finally reverting back to Parkside Park moniker following annexation into Mahoning County in 1998! Today there are several buildings remaining from when Garfield Heights had all these things: main street square including City Hall Annex Building currently used as office space by Village Manager office; old armory complex across from 5th Ave hubba humba style shopping mall also left intact with many pieces still standing such as Barnard Cafeteria which served students during lunchtime until closing due primarily to lack of business over time; Scott's Drug store remains open inside gymnasium/Recycling Center today though closed for lunch most days; Garbage truck still drives around property picking up trash everyday even though residents no longer throw anything away!

The first post office in Garfield Heights was established in 1868, and it remained in operation until 1907. The city's first mayor was Wm. Hagan (1872-1875). In 1903, Mayor John Tompkins organized a drive to build a water tower to help with water supply problems in the city; this led to the development of what is now known as Water Tower Park south of town. In 1920, three brothers founded what became Copley Paper Merchants Inc., which still operates out of its original building downtown today. They were later joined by other businessmen over time and continue to operate under that name today; their extensive paper production helped give rise to many local businesses such as Home Depot, Marshall's Department Store and several amusement parks including Western Reserve Park—the only one left open after being closed by fire in 1990 due to concerns about overuse from visitors (though it has been renovated several times since then). Garfield Heights also played a significant role during World War II with its large number of army soldiers who served throughout Europe and Asia; many homes within town remain decorated with American flags from that time period. Afterward, many families moved away from town beginning around 1970 due largely to declining prices for farmland near Greater Cincinnati although some have returned recently through annexation or purchase by nearby communities like Northside or Westwood Village

As of the census[2] of 2010, there were 9,362 people resident in 3 villages: Northmont (population 1,927), Southmont (population 2,083), and Garfield Heights proper (population 901). The population density was 2 people per square mile (0 persons per square kilometer). There were 466 housing units at an average density of 0 per square mile (0 persons per square kilometer). The racial makeup of this village was 98% White; 0% Black or African American; 0% Native American; 0% Asian; 0% Pacific Islander; 1% from other races; and 2% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino origin accounted for 8%. Of all households $24 or less income defined as poverty level increased household size by 3 percentage points to 26%. This village had a median household income greater than $80 thousand but below $100 thousand according to Census data ($52 ±$10k).
