Garfield Heights, Ohio is a city in the U.S. state of Ohio, and the county seat of Garfield County. As of 2010, the population was 18,813. The city is home to The Garfield Heights Public Library, which has been serving the community since 1881. Garfield Heights is a city in the US state of Ohio, located on the west side of the states capital of Columbus. The population was 46,752 at the 2010 census. Garfield Heights is part of the Cleveland-Akron-Canton Combined Statistical Area. The first Europeans to visit what is now Garfield Heights were French missionaries in 1795. They named it Pointe aux Meadows after a tributary of the Muskingum River they saw there. A post office was established in 1814, and by 1825 it had become known as Athens Township. In 1827, Athens Township was renamed Union Township after union between Ohio and Michigan Territory. The village of Athens merged with Union Township in 1840 to form Garfield Heights Village. The village name change came about because when businesses started moving into the area from other townships, some people wanted their own town name and others objected to having another town called "Athanesville" around them (the original town name was taken from a place in Canada). In 1863, during the American Civil War, General George Armstrong Custer's 3rd Cavalry Regiment fought its way through Union lines and entered Cincinnati without orders from higher up; this event becameknown as "The Battle Of Gettysburg". As a result of this battle, much bitterness developed between Confederate veterans and Union soldiers living nearby because most people within several miles radius lived east ofCVille on various hills which lay behind downtown Cincinnati proper: these hills are now known collectively as "The Hill District". This led President Abraham Lincoln to order General Grant tooccupy that part of Kentucky north ofowntown Cincinnati while he made his way southward across America looking for Confederate forces responsible for this conflict – these actions eventually led to Grant's Siege Of Chattanooga which ended two years later. By 1922 over 60%of our population consisted solely of children ages 5 thru 9 years old with no sign whatsoever whatsoever that adult employment or cultural influences would begin To arrive until more recently!. From humble beginnings consisting mostlyof single family homes sitting atop small lots throughout portions OF Our once agricultural industry Thankfully many families responded positivelyto offers for relocation resultingin construction commenceigns such as Stroud Homes (a model subdivision built specificallyfor young families), Ferncreek Estates (oneofthestanding subdivisionsToday), Willowbrook Lakeside Estates (anothermodelsubdivision), etc.; finally reaching heights associatedwith currentdays suburban neighborhoods such as Springvale Gardens (), Mayfair (), Arlington Oaks (), Forest Lawn ()& much more!. Today approximately 80%of all jobs found outside City limits are within 1 mile radiusand nearly all public schools currently offer high quality programs along with ample extracurricular opportunities For kids growing Up!.
