The first residents were poor frontier farmers who raised corn and beans for export; later they diversified their farming into other crops including appleseed production and cattle raising which led to a heavy industrial presence in early decades including breweries (owned by local businessmen), Factories J&L Paper Manufacturing Company (founded 1915), Armour Rubber Company (founded 1916), American Isobel Corporation (formed 1918) which manufactured high-quality rubber products for both domestic and export markets; Wernher Von Braun's Rocketdyne Laboratories Incorporated began operations at Euclid Avenue & Superior Street in 1922; Rubbermaid founder James Fenton established his company there in 1923 before moving it across Euclid Avenue to 216 E 13th St., where he developed what would become Rubbermaid's world headquarters until 1984 when it relocated again to 214 W 24th St.; Wernher Von Braun also established his own company there called "Von Braun Enterprises" which produced hydrogen gas centrifuges for government research programs starting 1948 before moving its equipment back across Euclid Avenue – all this while continuing his rocketry research at Buckeye Lake Landfill near North Royalton Castle – turning it into one of America's largest landfillsignificantly contributing to present day suburban development patterns within walking distance of each other along Euclid Ave..
