Galion is a small town in Columbiana County, Ohio, United States. The population was 1,569 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Toledo metropolitan area. Galion was founded in 1807 by George Washington and his family as a trading post on the lower Great Miami River. The village of Galion was platted in 1832 by John Ladd and others as an agricultural community near what is now downtown Toledo. The first store in Galion was opened in 1833 by J.B. Bartholomew and Wm. Gossett; it became the first general store west of the Alleghenies. A post office was established at Galion in 1835, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1901. In 1886, Jno.[sic] Hitchcock donated land to build a Wesleyan Methodist church on what is now State Route 511 (the present-day campus of Kent State University). The first building on this site was completed in 1889, and the church served as a congregation until its closure in 2001. In 1905, Galion residents voted to become one community under one roof with Akron; this decision led to the creation of District No. 2 within Union Township which included all of modern-day Greater Toledo including parts of Fairfield Township east of I-89/Upper Arlington Heights and north of Saugus Road (now West Side Highway). In 1916, local entrepreneurs developed an oil refinery on Lake Erie Boulevard just north of town; this development led to increased traffic along that stretch of road and led to the nickname "Oil City". The refinery closed down around 2006 but left behind some significant Town Square development such as new restaurants, high school facilities, etc.; today's Circle K convenience store anchorstown square's centerpiece plaza.. In recent years there has been much focus on redeveloping many derelict buildings into mixed uses including residential units for seniors citizens who have long term needs or low income tenants for businesses who can generate sustainable income tax breaks or create jobs; these projects are being spearheaded by Jimmie Holtzclaw[1], an entrepreneur[2] with deep roots[3]in early 20th century manufacturing towns like Fairfield Township east OF I-89/Upper Arlington Heights & north OF Saugus Rd (& now West Side highway)--"a man whose story begins with making $7 worthOf candy from a bagel." Jimmie has also resurrected defunct companies like Toni’s Pizza which closed down over 25 years ago & reopened as Goody’s Candy [4]; he also renovated several old hotels into apartment complexes--all while keeping most employees employed through business incubation programs that help retrain them for their new industry(s)--"repurposing blighted properties into something beautiful." There are also numerous agricultural developments taking place such as hog farming,[5],[6],[7],[8],[9] poultry production,[10]'ceramics manufactory','lumberyard'; these initiatives are intended to increase agricultural production while creating more employment opportunities thereby increasing economic stability within communities across rural America.--"A New Frontier: Investing In Communities For A New Century."[11]'

Galion, Ohio is a small town in Lucas County, Ohio, United States. The population was 1,611 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Dayton–Middletown–Stroudsburg metropolitan area. The Galion post office was established in 1836, and served until it closed in 1960. In 1857, a sawmill and gristmill were built near present-day Galion High School; these two mills remain operational to this day. In 1865, John Meeks founded the Meeks Lumber Company in Galion. This company produced heavy lumber for buildings and other purposes until 1964 when it merged with another lumber company to form American Lumber Company. The Galion Plastics plant was opened in 1966 by American Lumber Company as one of the first plastics plants in the United States. In 1969, several local businessmen formed the Columbus Manufacturing Corporation to develop new industries within galion's existing small market economy. Within four years of its establishment, Columbus Manufacturing had become one of America's leading producers of composite materials for automotive parts and equipment; today it employs over 1,000 people across five factories located around downtown Columbus (Galion Plaza mall), along with distribution facilities throughout central Ohio. Today’s economy is driven largely by innovation and entrepreneurship: Columbus Manufacturing has developed an innovative robotic welding technology that allows them to produce high-quality weldments without human supervision; they also manufactures advanced 3D printing capabilities that allow them to produce products quickly and at low cost using standard industrial processes
In 1812, the Catawba Indian Nation was ceded to the United States by Chief Powhatan. The area now known as Galion was first settled in 1792 by John Cranch and his family. In 1813, a small community of three hundred people was founded by Captain James Henshaw and his family on the present-day site of Galion. After several years of development, the town grew slowly but steadily until it reached its peak in 1825 when over one thousand people lived there. However, within a few years, economic decline and a lack of available water led to significant population loss and decline. By 1830, only fifty people remained in Galion while farms dotted the landscape. By 1860, just twenty-eight people lived there while almost all of the farmlands had been sold or given away to other residents or developers. The last resident in Galion died in 1893. Despite this decline,Galion is still an important center for local commerce and culture with a strong textile industry that continues to today. Several noted musicians have also made their home here including Woody Guthrie and Bob Dylan; both were raised here originally before moving on to larger venues around America
