Galion is a town in Stark County, Ohio, United States. The population was 1,711 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Cleveland Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settler in Galion was Captain George Wilkinson in 1814. He built a log cabin on the banks of the Licking River and named it Wilkinson's Ferry after himself and his brother-in-law, Nathaniel Wilkinson. The town site was surveyed and platted by John Fenton in 1827. A post office called Galion was established in 1828, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1902. Galion had two churches: First Presbyterian (founded1831) and Holiness Baptist (founded1864). Both denominations merged into one church congregation in 1907. In 1911, Galion became home to the world's largest cotton gin when James Wigglesworth erected a large machine that could process up to 100tons of cotton per day at his Galion Cotton Gin Company. Eventually other companies followed suit – including Union Carbide Corporation's Canton plant – making Galion one of the leading cotton producers in America during the 1920s and 1930s. In 1941, General Motors began manufacturing operations at its new Toledo Assembly Plant; this led to an increase in traffic throughtown which caused some streets to become clogged with cars coming from all directions on weekdays during lunchtime; as a result of galions efforts to improve access roadsides businesses started opening up near Main Street where now you can find several small restaurants specializing mainly around local produce

It is part of the Cleveland-Akron-Canton, OH Metropolitan Statistical Area. The original Galion post office was established on April 14, 1824 and closed on December 12, 1829. The town was platted in 1835 by James Smeaton and named for George Paulding of New York City. The village of Galion was founded in 1909 by Drs. John Fenton and Lewis Hinton as a residence for physicians working in Akron and Muskingum Counties during the early years of medical care in those areas. In 1916 the village became a fullfledged incorporated place with its own government and schools; it retains its name to this day despite having no relationship with any historical figure other than that of Galion Township (now Muskingum County). In 1962 Village President Hinton died suddenly after many years leading the community organization which had grown up around him; his wife served as interim president until their son Vernon took over one year later. During his first year as president he streamlined operations & made some significant changes including moving from an open door policy to closed doors for club meetings so that more information could be shared effectively among members (& limiting outside advertising). His goals included keeping Village Hall operational even when there were only three residents living therein due to health concerns; expanding programming available to citizens through public events such as a summer carnival & fireworks show each year; increasing citizen input into Village affairs thru surveys/focus groups/town meeting attendance records etc.; creating guidelines for building design within Village boundaries while still adhering to principles of sustainability/efficiency etc.; developing marketing materials specific toVillage (menu items included) while also reaching out to area businesses who might provide products or services related to growth within the Village limits; initiating negotiations with neighboring townships about sharing resources (water treatment plants etc.) In 1984 Vernon’s father passed away leaving him sole administrator but soon after he announced plans for construction of a new library downtown which would have ramifications far beyond just Villa Hall - not only would it have increased access to educational opportunities for villagers but also increase economic development i

The community grew rapidly and soon boasted a population of over 100 residents. In 1838, Galion became the first city in Ohio and quickly became known for its prosperous commerce, arts and culture. Its growth continued into the 1850s and 1860s asGalion developed into an important transportation hub on the Great Lakes region. By 1870, Galion had reached its peak as a commercial center with multiple businesses including breweries, hotels and stores. However, economic recession during the early 1880s caused many local businesses to close their doors and the population to dwindle until it all but disappeared by 1890.
