Gahanna, Ohio is a village in Columbiana County, Ohio, United States. The population was 1,521 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Columbiana County. Gahanna was founded in 1824 and named for George Hardin Gahanna, an officer in the U.S. Army during the War of 1812 who served as commissioner of Indian Affairs for central Ohio from 1815 to 1821. Gahanna was laid out on November 3, 1824 by John Hagaman and James Caldwell under a patent from the State of Ohio. The town site was chosen because it had a deep ravine separating two adjacent valleys and its location near high water made it easy to build roads and bridges over rivers or creeks. The village first went through several name changes before settling on its current name in 1830 when commissioners voted 12-1 to replace "Fenton" with "Gahanna". The Village of Gahanna was platted on December 11, 1830 by tractors belonging to Simon Madsen and others then working on his Madsen Canal project which linked Cincinnati with Toledo via the Cuyahoga River gorge west of Cleveland. On January 9, 1836 those same tractors indentured five men – Abraham Warner (age 36), Elias Howe (age 39), Solomon Morse (age 21), Major David Ransom (age 26) and Job Singleton ( age 10) – to work for six years as street sweepers throughout what would become Gahannatown including parts of today's Mentor neighborhood and backyards of many homes between West 146th Street/First Avenue North and East 117th Street/Second Avenue North. On February 51836 Wm Hickey bought one acre along First Avenue Northeast from Solomon Morse for $10 cash plus three months' worth of labor that he could use whenever he pleased until he sold it back to Morse for $16 plus interest at 6 percent per year until maturity; this land would later be called Hickey Road which ran from First Avenue Northeast to eastbound US Route 422 near today's Mentor High School across from VFW Post 8591 where Hickey lived at one time while serving as postmaster general under Presidents Andrew Johnson & Ulysses S Grant during their campaigns for office in that area during the Civil War era. For more than sixty years following its founding Gahan Township failed to nominate one mayor nor did it have any formaldehyde production until 1984 when Dick Dennett running as an independent against incumbent Democrat John Brooks won using Perotomics as his voting platform promising not only To reduce taxes but also cut government spending by 20% without affecting social services such as schools or libraries thereby freeing up resources available for other priorities like infrastructure repair etc.; this promise has been kept ever since making Gahan Township one of only two township governments statewide without any public debt service obligation beyond reimbursing members dues currently owed totaling $2 million annually according after costs associated with maintaining police department equipment & vehicles storage facility; recent improvements included installation new sidewalks throughout village limits within 4 years beginning March 2014 thru October 2016 inclusive

Gahanna, Ohio (May 8, 1796 – July 4, 1876) was an American merchant and political figure who served as the first Mayor of Gahanna, Ohio from 1836 to 1838. He also served as a member of the Ohio General Assembly from 1840 to 1845. Gahanna was born on May 8, 1796 in York County, Pennsylvania to Joseph Gahanna and his wife Susannah (née Snyder). The family moved to Gahanna in 1800. In 1807 he married Catherine Toombs. Gahannas father died in 1830 and mother died in 1834. He attendedsectional schools and then worked at various jobs before entering business full-time in 1840. His first store was located on High Street between Clinton Avenue and Elmira Avenue. In 1846 he ran for mayor of Gahanna but lost to James Purdy by 3 votes out of 553 cast. Two years later he won reelection with nearly 60% of the vote against Purdy's 38%. From this point forward until his death in1876, Gahanan adhered strictly to the Republican Party platform although he did not run for office again until after the end of Reconstruction in 1865 when he ran for election as a Democrat but lost by 1 percentage point to John J. McKinney
Gahanna was founded in 1795 by the brothers James and Daniel Gahanna. The town served as a military post during the Northwest Indian War. In 1834, Gahanna became a city. In 1959, Gahanna became an agricultural center with a large number of corn and soybean crops.
