Hawkins also played a significant role in developing Gahanna into one of Ohio’s leading science cities through his work with The Ohio State University’s Center for Research on Multicultural Issues (CRIMINAL). After Hawkins’ death in 1970, Mayor Edward D “Drudge” Reed took over as mayor until he was impeached in 1978 for using government resources to support political campaigns outside of their official duties. Since Reed’s impeachment there have been several mayors with diverse backgrounds including Polish-American Jobstown Councilman Dan Gilbert; Italian American Third Ward Alderman Joe Sabatini; Black male candidate Bettie Lee Johnson; Native American member John Kasich; Hispanic immigrant Ruben Diaz; and current Mayor Frank Jackson Jr.). Today, Gahanna is home to many industries such as technology companies such as Facebook Inc., Googleplex Inc., Apple Inc., Twitter Inc., Amazon Web Services Academy), biotechnology companies such as Monsanto Co., Bayer AG & BASF SE (GMO seed giant), along with 100% black enrollment at Western Junior College – making it one of only two comprehensive high schools within 50 miles of Columbus that offers full-time education for all students within minority communities (the other is Tuskegee University). Additionally, there are numerous small businesses located throughout town that rely on locally sourced products or services because they cannot find equivalent quality or prices elsewhere. There are also many local shootings each year due to events like Columbus Day Parade or Homecoming parade where important downtown areas are closed off during certain times so residents can get a good view from their homes without having their property violated

Gahanna is a city in the Muskegon Heights, Michigan county seat of Muskegon Heights Township and the only municipality in the Gahanna-Barrington-Holland, MI Metropolitan Statistical Area. The population was 23,788 at the 2010 census. It had a population of 26,912 as of 2015. The city was founded by John A. Gahan on December 12, 1837 as a post office called "Gahanna". The name derived from Gahan's home state of Ohio. In 1849, Gahan bought 8 acres (3 ha) of land east of town and built what is now known as City Hall on that property. He named it after himself and his wife Eliza Jane Hahnbeck Gahan. In 1875 he donated another 2 acres (1 ha) to the town for use as a public square. The first store opened in that square in 1876. 2 more stores followed before 1907 when Community Bank moved into its current building on Elm Street between Main and Fairfax Streets – located where I-94/I-275 now intersects Elm Street – becoming one of America's first commercial banksnotes printing business[1]. Community Bank continued operations until 1984 when it merged with First National Bank to form OneUnited Financial Corporation which became part of JPMorgan Chase & Co., one of the world’s largest financial organizations[2]. In 1987 Community Bank merged with Erie Savings Bankshares Company to form Erie Savings Bankshares Trust Company which still operates today as Erie Savings Bankshares Corporation Limited Partnership[3]. In 1990 City Council voted 4 - 1 to annex neighboring Holland Township because there was no other place within reach for growth pains inside Muskegon Heights Township borders; however annexation failed due to lack of signatures from both townships’ respective mayors[4]. On November 10, 2006 Gahanna voters passed an ordinance establishing an open carry policy at all businesses within city limits while also amending zoning regulations to allow concealed carry outside those specific business hours during certain limited circumstances such as special events or if crime rates have increased within the city boundaries since adoption of the ordinance[5]
