Fremont, Ohio is a small city in the U.S. state of Ohio. The population was 11,814 at the 2000 census. Fremont is part of the Cleveland–Akron–Canton Metropolitan Statistical Area. It is located along Interstate 495 and State Route 717, about east of Akron and west of Dayton. The town was founded in 1812 by Colesville settlers led by Nicholas Goodrich and James Caldwell as a post office called Ghent on the Scioto River near today's Gahanna University campus.
