On December 15, 1876, Fremont’s first target shoot took place at the now defunct Indian Hills Rifle and Pistol Club. The event ran from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m., and featured a three-day scramble for rifles and pistols. Winners were determined by who could complete the most targets in a set time period. In 1916, Fremont Shooting Hall was built on land donated by Mrs. John Hargrave of Fremont. The building served as the club’s gymnasium until it burned down in 1922. In 1961, the National Rifle Association (NRA) donated a Target Holder to use at its national meeting in Columbus, Ohio that year. The NRA has continued to give away target holders through various NRA events ever since. The shooter would place their hand on top of the circle at the bottom and use their other hand to hold onto the frame. Then they would fire off shots into the circles. In 1836, one of these pioneer families – John Bender – married Sarah Purdy from Warren Township (now Defiance). They had six children: five boys and one girl; each boy baptized into the Lutheran church before becoming adults and leaving home to start their own businesses—one became a doctor; one started an insurance company; one founded a banking firm; one served as mayor of Middletown (later Fairfield), Ohio; and one became an American president after serving as governor of New York City during Franklin D Roosevelt's first term (1939-1945). In 1837, George Stephenson built his engine shop on Euclid Avenue between State Route 35W (now US 12) and US 6 south of town while working on developing Wayne County into a transportation corridor leading northward from Cincinnati through Cleveland to Michigan via Youngstown/Warrensburgh/Nileside. After hearing about Stephenson's efforts from residents in Fremont Township who had seen his locomotive shops being developed near their homes back home during that same period, John Mapes donated some land at what is now Middleburg Avenue NE for Stephenson's railroad project which led eventually to Detroit’s Grand Trunk Railway Company Yards across Clinton Street NW from downtownDetroit making it possible for passengers traveling northeastbound on the GRT to reach Cleveland’s First National Bank building located just east of today’s I-71 median northof Main Street by walking south down Clinton Street northwest past today’s footbridge over I-71 where they took an elevator up under I-271 until reaching First National Bank Building #2 on Clark Street SE just west of today’s interchange with Interstate 71

Fremont is a city in the U.S. state of Ohio and the seat of Kent County. The population was 61,521 at the 2010 census, making it the second-largest city in Kent County after Cleveland. Fremont is located on the Scioto River and is bordered by unincorporated communities of Beech Grove to the east, Isabella Township to the north, Arlington Heights to the northwest and Mayfield Township to the south. It has a humid subtropical climate (Köppen Climate Classification Cfa) with warm summers and cold winters. The first permanent settler in Fremont was David Cook in 1788. The town was founded as a result of an agreement between two land companies: one from Pennsylvania, led by Colonel George Washington; and another from Ohio, led by John Marshall. By 1801, most of what is now Fremont had been established as a town under its own charter granted by Governor James Denny. In 1802–03, when Territorial Lieutenant Colonel Oliver Hazard Perry surveyed portions of present-day Akron and other areas within present-day Kent County for use as part of his survey for annexation into Ohio, he discovered that there were large amounts of coal deposits near where Fremont now stands. Perry recommended that this coal be developed into a new oil industry in what became known as Perryville Coal Fields; however, this idea was not taken up until later when railroad development made mining easier nearby than it had been before. In 1836–37 Commodore Samuel Eliot Morison sailed past Frisco Bay on his way around North America while on his "Great Lakes Observation" Expedition; during his visit he noted that Lake Erie looked very different from any point he'd seen before due to its Ortigas chain of mountains running along its eastern edge In 1840s Captain John Fitch built Fort Fitch across from present day Frisco City limits on Nowicki Island just downstream from current day Mayfield Township line On October 15th 1870 about 300 men gathered at Nowicki Island for an encampment numbering over 1200Oscar Howe remembers them well good people they brought their horses saddles bags pigs feathers feathers combs nails rugs mats cooking pots water kettles stone axes hoes saws chisels hammers panned wood
