The Fremont Rifle Stock Company was founded in 1892 by John A. Fremont, a rifle manufacturer and politician from Ohio. The company produced rifles of various types including the Model 1886, .30-06 caliber rifle and the Model 1889, .45 ACP rifle. In 1916, the company merged with Winchester Repeating Arms Company to form Winchester, Inc. Winchester Repeating Arms Company was founded in 1892 by John A. Winchester, a rifle manufacturer and politician from Massachusetts. The company produced rifles of various types including the Model 1903 Springfield rifle and the Model 1904/05 repeater shotgun. In 1906, Winchester merged with Remington Arms Company to form Remington Corporation. Remington Corporation was founded in 1897 by Andrew Wirtz Jr., a businessman from Philadelphia who had gained experience as an arms salesman for companies such as Colt firearms and Browning ammunition companies. Remington began producing rifles and shotguns under its own name in 1907 and became one of America's leading firearms manufacturers throughout the 20th century. Fremont, Ohio is a town located in western Ohio on the shores of Lake Erie. The population was 71,623 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Kent County. Fremont was founded by subscription in 1836 and incorporated as a city in 1907. The town has been situated on an area that has been occupied by several villages since the mid-19th century. The first permanent settler in what would become Fremont was John Aspinwall, who arrived in 1827 from Connecticut with his family. Aspinwall named his new village after himself and his brother-in-law, Nathaniel Hawthorne, who had just purchased land east of present day Fremont. On July 24, 1836, subscribers to a plat of land southeast of Fremont voted to form a town under the name "Fremont." The vote followed a meeting held at which residents pledged to support one another throughshared labor and capital investments for development. In addition to its location on the shores of Lake Erie, Fremont also enjoyed favorable natural features such as fertile soil and rolling hills that made it an ideal place to grow crops and raise livestock. In 1907, following annexation by Cleveland of neighboring Summit County (now Cuyahoga County), Fremont became part of the newly formed city of Cleveland proper. At this time there were more than 1,000 residents living in downtown Cleveland and over 100 businesses catering to the needs of its citizens including banks, grocery stores and factories manufacturing munitions during World War I and II. By 1960surban sprawl had begun moving families out into surrounding suburbs while downtown Cleveland continued languishing within walking distance only for locals to pick up heavy shopping bags full of relics from centuries ago when many people did not even own automobiles! This lackadaisical attitude towards Downtown Cleveland led President Lyndon B Johnson to issue an Executive Order establishing Community Development Centers throughout inner-city areas seeking “to make housing production available where low income housing exists without displacing or reducing job opportunities” thereby stimulating redevelopment around these centers provide jobs for local inhabitants rather than driving them out into outer suburbs! By 1805, there were over 100 inhabitants living in what became Fremont Township; it was organized into a town on April 15, 1810 by act of Congress under territorial jurisdiction with a population of just 10 people – all men! On February 14, 1861 – exactly one year before Ohio became an slave state – Fenton Hodge (a white man) founded factionalism within the Republican Party that led to his expulsion from that party seeking electoral votes he could use to gain state office instead under Abraham Lincoln; Hodge later joined anti-slavery forces and moved back east to Pennsylvania where he died in 1865 at age 82 years old!
