By 1830, many residents had built homes around a small square courthouse/marketplace central to town life which remains extant today and has been used for storage, business purposes, and occasional events such as concerts and exhibits since then. A new courthouse was completed in 1891–92 with Gothic Revival style architecture popular at that time; it served as the original home ofLucas County government until 1914 when a new courthouse building was erected adjacent to what is now FirstEnergy Park within downtown Fremont limits. In 1850 saw construction begin on what would become Euclid Avenue which connected Fremont with nearby Batavia (now part of Akron). This street became known as Main Street after General George Washington crossed it at promenade while visiting Fort Erie on September 17th,. In 1861–1862 during Civil War efforts early settlers were forced out by Union troops occupying their land so soon after establishment thereof--a event later chronicled in song entitled "The Removal" composed by Augustus SaintJohn Fisher about American Indians forced from their homes east of Lake Erie during this conflict One interesting historical marker located inside Downtown Fremon

By 1900, Fremont had reached its peak as a manufacturing center with blast furnaces forsteel products located along the Scioto River adjacent to its downtown area. However, during World War II most of the manufacturing stopped as war production moved away from Detroit towards Wavertree Arsenal in England; however some factories did continue until 1945 including those responsible for producing naval munitions During economic times there has been significant development around Downtown Fremont with several high-end mixed use districts being created like Midtown Center (the former home of Sears) or Southcenter (a much larger mixed use district currently under construction near Interstate 680). There have also been efforts made to revitalize rural areas around town such as Elmira Township outside of town limits which includes numerous acres of parkland complete with basketball courts etc., but these have not yet borne fruit

In 1836, Fremont became a city after it was incorporated as a result of an act of Congress. It experienced rapid growth during the late 19th century due to its importance as an agricultural center and its status as a major transportation hub for the region. The city's population reached 100,000 by 1910, but declined during World War II because of military use of the area. Fremont again experienced strong growth during the postwar years, reaching more than 200,000 residents by 1970. However, recent economic downturns have caused considerable decline in population and business activity throughout the city.
